MessageMy wife Charlotte Stempel Byrd is the 3G granddaughter of Christian Wilhelm Stempel who is believed to be the person who began the Iowa Wendish migration from Drachhausen in 1847 to Fort Madison, Iowa. We have been corresponding with Cathy Petersen for several years. She is an amazing resource. Currently we have several of Christian Wilhelm Stempel's original letters from before and after the immigration being reviewed for translation. Any information on the Stempel family before and after this time period would be appreciated especially going further back into history.

MessageHi,

I traced my father's line to Chemnitz, Saxony about 75 miles west of modern Lusatia. I had a 111 YDNA test at Family Tree DNA, and I belong to haplogroup R1a1 L1029 as mentioned by Hanson on your message board. My great great grandparents emigrated from Saxony to Michigan USA in 1870.
