MessageHi Allison, nice site! The Spoonful have always been one of my fave bands, I've been lucky to see John in person several times, and he is, as you say, a great guy. He signed an album for me, and later I had Joe, Steve and Jerry sign it, too, but sadly, never got to meet Zal. It's nice to see they have fans in the "younger generation'!

MessageWow. Great site. I was listening to a compilation album, 25 greatest hits, or whatever. The number of really great songs is incredible. One of my all-time favorites. I'm old enough to have purchased their original albums back in the 60s. Do Ypo Believe in Magic is one of my all-time favorite songs.

MessageHi Allison,
This is a great website. I used to see the Lovin Spoonful at Georgetown University's McDonough gymnasium in D.C. Joe and Zal came out and gave us girls the thrill of our 14-year-old existence! Zal was my favorite but all of them had so much personality and seemed so nice. Their music was fantastic and still is. No other group was/has ever been like them. I still love them!

MessageGreat job, Allison! You're right, there's hardly anything useful about the Spoons on the web, so I was delighted to find your site. My uncle lives in Kingston; when I went to Canada on vacation in 1991 I didn't know yet that Zally lived there. When I was back in Kingston in the summer of 2002 for some reason I didn't ask my uncle, if we could go to Chez Piggy. Could kick myself ever since, because, when I returned the next time, it was too late ...

Keep up the good work.
Bernie

Messagesmilie Great site. I just saw a Guild like Zally's at the Philly Guitar Show yesterday. I have been a fan since the 1960s, but never got to see the boys back then. The closest I got was when Joe Butler came to Wilmington, DE to speak on WAMS circa Everything's Playing. It wouldn't be until the 1990s that I would see them again (although I've caught John every now and then since 1969) at Hershey Park. Then I saw the band right before my wedding in August of 2001. Ironic since I finally met Zally after a wait ofr thirty some years. We had dinner at Chez Piggie and I got a shot taken with him. I was tongue-tied meeting my idol even at the age of forty-seven. Planned to send him some clippings, but he was dead about a year later. The strange thing about Chex Piggie is that there was no mention of the Spoonful at all. Just a couple of pictures of the modern day Zally.

I really like your Who Sang What section. Tried to make a Joe Butler sings CD once, but stopped when I realized it was only half an hour long (pretty sure that's Yester on Close Your Eyes). I could have done one on Boone singing and put it on the back of a postage stamp!

Gave John Sebastian a tape once of his dad and himself playing harmonicas on the David Frost Show. He said it was the only time his dad and him played together.

MessageBeen a fan since the Spoonful's inception, and have followed both John and the 3-member group for all these years. Sorry I discovered this site so late, but will try to be a contributor.
