| Message | I'm half way through your excellent 'Chickens, mules ...'. I live near Valencia, and so much of your experience of learning about Spain matches my own, though we bought a new house so getting on our feet was much easier.
I was interested to read about the church bells ringing twice. They do in our village too, and we were told it was for the benefit of the workers out in the fields in days gone by who didn't have watches. At the first ring of the bells, they wouldn't necessarily start counting at one, but would carefully count the second peal, and so would know when it was time to go home.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the book. You have an engaging writing style, and clearly an open-minded attitude to living in a foreign country, sadly not shared by many expats. So refreshing!
Un saludo Irene |
