MessageI'm half way through your excellent 'Chickens, mules ...'. I live near Valencia, and so much of your experience of learning about Spain matches my own, though we bought a new house so getting on our feet was much easier.

I was interested to read about the church bells ringing twice. They do in our village too, and we were told it was for the benefit of the workers out in the fields in days gone by who didn't have watches. At the first ring of the bells, they wouldn't necessarily start counting at one, but would carefully count the second peal, and so would know when it was time to go home.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the book. You have an engaging writing style, and clearly an open-minded attitude to living in a foreign country, sadly not shared by many expats. So refreshing!

Un saludo
Irene

MessageHi 'Beaky!'

I heard about your fabulous book on the BYC site.
I immediately ordered a copy and sent one as a gift to a friend in Miami who also has chickens --

Both of us have chatted on the phone about your book and we laugh out loud each time --

My husband and I have 7 hens, a MULE, and are definitely in the 'old fool' category -- when Bob saw the newly arrived book on our coffee-table, he asked if I had written it as the title is too perfect!

We have just returned from a 'road trip' -- we passed some of the time with your book -- I read it cover-to-cover to him over a space of two days -- being a huge believer in DIY projects, he laughed at all of it -- loved the 'Equators' -- cried when Old Sancho died and smiled happily when Little Paco received the puppy for his birthday -- had to laugh at the car stuck in the sand, as well --

Both of enjoyed every single word and the book is
now on its way to another 'chicken-fool!'

Thank you for making us laugh!

Sue R.
