MessageWow - What an amazing story! Hats off to Amy for doing the right thing for her daughter, and for giving De & Don the most precious gift ever! I applaud De & Don as well for opening their hearts to Deanna, Amy & Robbie and making them all part of their family. I hope this story is an inspiration for many, especially those contemplating adoption themselves.

MessageThank you for sharing your heart-warming story! I hope it educates a lot of people about what adoption can be.

I am the mother of two children adopted at birth (now ages 3 and 2; girl/boy). We maintain open relationships with both birth families and our lives have been richer for it!

Although my kids are still little, I pray that we are making the best choices for them. I keep asking myself, how could it be wrong to have MORE people love a child??! That is the part that others don't always understand but you all apparently feel the same way.

All the best to all of you! Congrats on your college graduation. Thank you for boldly sharing your story. Thanks for choosing life AND love for a sweet little girl. And thanks for the adoptive parents welcoming and honoring the commitments made to maintain an open adoption. I bet at this point you couldn't imagine it another way but still...

I know that the journey isn't always easy but I pray that you'll be an inspiration for others who live in fear. May you be a blessing and a hope for someone whose journey seems dark and bleak! Adoption can be a healthy, good, and loving option!

All the best!
K

MessagePS - if you know of anyone in this situation who needs a loving family to take care of the baby, we would be open to talking. Our kids are awesome (14, 12 and 10) and we were talking about having another baby, but I had back surgery about 5yrs ago and it wouldn't be an option to have a baby now (besides, I had a tubal ligation after Ryan was born). We've talked about adoption but I would want to know the birth parents and have them be a part of our lives and the baby's life, and didn't realize until I saw this story that that would even be an option. So...here we are...a great family with a great (and modest) life, with lots to offer a child. :-) Bye again. Susan

MessageYou're a corageous woman, Amy. Your daughter is blessed to have such a wonderful family with so many people to love her and look out for her. Good luck with everything. Happy Mother's Day! I wish I'd had a supportive family when I was 17 and pregnant; things would have turned out differently. I'm now 40 (today's my 40th bday) and have 3 kids, but I'll always think of the day when my whole life changed because I thought I had no other option besides abortion...November 1, 1986. I hope pregnant teens see your story and realize they have a choice and do the right thing. I can't go back in time, but I can teach my children about their options if they find themselves in a similar situation. My mom was in the hospital (she had a stroke when I was 16 and was near death several times over a two year period)...I was the youngest of 3 kids and the only one still "home" - my dad didn't even talk to me at all and still doesn't know what I went through. God bless you and your family. My best regards,

Susan

MessageDe and Don -- I just read about your family in the N&O - what a great story. I had heard you had adopted a little girl but I did not know the entire story. She is beautiful and you both look so happy with her. This is one way to keep in touch!

Good to hear how well you are doing. Take care -- Susan

MessageBeautiful......simply beautiful. I am a million percent supportive of open adoption--as I have personally experienced the process. 2 years ago, my then 17 year old daughter decided to place her son up for adoption. As a struggling single mom, the LAST thing I wanted was for my birth grandchild to be "caught up" in the system.
Long story--short. We found wonderful parents through an online search of open adoptive agencies. We met them in person 6 days before the baby came but of course had been in touch before then.
The hardest day was when my daughter signed the relinquishment papers. At the time, all we could give this precious child was love, and he deserved a life!! Oh yeah, he could not wait to be born in the hospital. I delivered him at home--very surreal and very awesome.
You did the right thing. God Bless you forever and Bless the parents of your daughter. Congratulations on your college graduation as well.

MessageDe Don and Deanna became our neighbors in South Carolina about 2 years ago. We love this family they are very sweet, genuine, and kind.

And our 2 year old daughter loves Deanna's company. I tell De they have a love-hate relationship(LOL), as they laugh, hug, and cry all at the same time while they play.

We are happy that we have such a nice family that are our neighbors and now have become our friends.
