MessageI just learned of this from a fellow classmate. I graduated in 1990. I am at a loss of words. I know I speak for the several I keep in regular touch with from high school that we were all very saddened when we learned Mr Maaske was no longer with us. In my 12yrs of schooling there are only 2-3 teaches I would ever want to visit and Mr Maaske was at the top of the list. Mr Maaske touched all of us - throughout the years he is the only teacher that consistently comes up in conversations - we often discuss the great Industrial Electronics class that we had. Mr Maaske was a saint to put up with us smilie he would be proud to know the successful people and parents we have become and that he had a part in helping make us the people we are today. I have NOTHING BUT FOND memories of Mr Maaske, his orange "Mystery machine" van with interior leopard print, and the Industrial Electronics class that, in my mind, made school worth going to. smilie. God Bless you Mr Maaske you are missed and THANK YOU for everything you did for us!!

MessagePeter, thinking of you a lot lately. Feel your presence and encouragement often.......

Love reading the tributes from people whose lives you touched. You brought so much to my life, happiness -- and sorrow that we lost you as we did. And growth.

Although it would have been wonderful to have you around and happy longer than you were, all these tributes confirm what we who love you know---your life was full and meaningful.

MessageI just had occasion to look at Peter's page and am so grateful for messages that are still being left telling what a great teacher and person he was. Yes, it makes me find his passing even more frustrating, but it's wonderful to know how he left his imprint. Keep giving back students!!
Miss you Peter. Your sister, Gretchen

MessagePeter Maaske was the only person on the staff at South Garland H.S. who left an impression on me. and that impression still lives in me. I am terribly saddened to hear of his passing. He was a truly remarkable man, and an almost folkloric-level Instructor. He had something nice to say of everyone he ever met. My two years in his electronics class were my fondest memories of my entire student career. He taught me how to value myself in my darkest hour, and that will never be forgotten. I love you Mr. Maaske. Thank you for everything. I will never forget you.

MessageWould just like to say I have actually been searching for Peter for years and it wasnt till I received some mail 2 weeks ago that I had the correct spelling of his name.Peter was my counselor In a halfway house named Cliff House In Dallas when I was a messed up kid. His compassion and love for kids from dysfunctional backgrounds was amazing and he changed the way I saw the world through his gentle and caring ways. I dont know if you knew the other counselor that was named Robin Okestraum I think but had been searching for her also. I found many years ago she was Murdered by a woman that it seems to me if I remember correctly of peoples kindness. Anyways I just wanted to say Peter made a change in many kids lives and want you to know I appreciated him. I grew up envying him and his baby blue 240Z and I think I still have a pic of me next to it somewhere. God Bless

MessageI just learned of Mr. Maaskes passing via this web site, and it hurts to know I won't see him again in this lifetime. Time goes so fast, I always meant to get in touch with him to make sure he knew what a fantastic teacher he was and that I've always missed being in his classes since graduating back in 2001. He really was a true friend to his students and I'm know he shaped many lives for the better. I asked Mr. Maaske about his views on religion vs. science one time. I remember his response to me that he didn't see any problem with the two ideas going hand in hand. That was one of many things that stuck with me. While no words can portray what Maaske was to so many, know this much; I looked up to Maaske and look foward to shaking his hand one day to say thanks for everything he was in this life. See you later Maaske!
