I was a CYN at NAVCOMMCEN Subic 1967-1969 and aboard USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) 1969-1970. Someone asked about routing indicators, and nearly 40 years later I still remember quite a few of them. Subic was RUMMWUA, Cubi was RUMMWIA, NAVCOMMSTA Phil was RUMFSAA -- RUEOHKA was the supply facility in Mechanicsburg, PA, RUWJMUA was San Diego (AMO San Diego and NSD San Diego?). I also logged in a fair amount of time as a service clerk, lots of ZES-2s and ZOVs.
Does anybody know what year the CYN rating was created, and what year the Navy eliminated it?
Happy Veterans Day!

I was a CYN, def a 4 year rate in the 60's. Boot at Great Lakes, CYN "A" school in Norva, 1 year at NavCommSta Iceland, 6 weeks on board the Howard W. Gilmore and the rest of my enlistment at ComSubLant Communications. Passed the RM2 exam, so I was almost a RM (not enough time left to advance)! LOL! I find it rather a quirk of fate that a RM in the Navy today is really a Database Admin of sorts and I've been in the computer business for more years than I care to mention. My Chief of the watch in Iceland was a former TE rate as well! So I've touched them all I guess. Happy Veterans Day coming up in couple weeks, to all!!
