| Message | To Nina, I am not sure about how ESL works with universities with music therapy. When you decide your schools, you may check it first. Thus, you can plan to do other language tests if they ask for. Since you already have a bachelor in music, it will make you much easier to apply. You will also spend less time in finishing your master degree. So far, what I wrote on my blog are about applying to the graduate schools. Every schools has different requirements on equivalent graduate students. You can check each school on my blog. As I known, every music therapy school requires international students to have TOEFL score. Some schools may allow people to study the first semester. International students get the required score during the first semester. Like what I said, each school is different. I suggest you to have a school list first and make a plan. Good luck ![]() |

| Message | To Chiao-Ping, So far, there are only few universities that have music therapy classes. In addition, these classes are about basic info of music therapy. If you get go to one of them, that's good. Reading a music therapy book could be your alternation. If you plan to study abroad in music therapy, you may take some classes with music. If you get credits of it, that is great. If you can't, you may be asked to take classes with music basic skills again, such as theory, sign reading, and hearing. If you can learn some basic skills on guitar or piano, that will make you feel easier when you come here. I only talk about USA. |

| Message | To Tina, Answer to 1st Q: If you have a music therapy certification, you "may" have a chance to have a full time job in the hospital. The title of jobs are various now. In a school system, I am not sure you can be a special education teacher. If you want to be a special education teacher, you may have to get info about it by yourself. Answer to 2nd Q:It is also possible that a part time job will be your first one after being a music therapist. You seem that you are very concerned about having a job as a music therapist. Yes, being a music therapist is harder to find a job than being a physical therapist or a nurse. I will suggest you to talk with some music therapists in Taiwan or get more info before going to study music therapy. Remember: everyone is different. |
