MessageMy father's parents were both of Transylvania Saxon descent. I remember going to the Saxon Country Club in Salem, OH and also to Cleveland for dances and picnics with my grandparents. My grandfather, Fred Theiss was very active with the ATS and was the Grand President for several years. I was devastated when he died of a heart attack at the age of 63. I have many wonderful memories of the time I spent at ATS functions when I was growing up. We lived a few hours away from the nearest Sachenheim, so I didn't get to continue being active with a branch when I got older. My husband and I live in Florida now.Good luck with the Errand!

MessageGreat Blog! Love to read the local history but really love to hear about places I've never been to or never heard of before. I too can't stand to see items such as pictures and marriage certificates anywhere to be sold. I agree they belong with their family. As matter of fact, on my desk right now lies an honorable discharge certificate and two High School football pictures of a man that I don't know. I found them amongst some items that I purchased at a estate sale. I'm just hoping he's still local. I'm in hopes of finding him. Keep the good blogs coming as I truly enjoy them. Keep stories coming on Shenango Valley. I love the history! Thx!!!
