MessageMy Grandad and my Dad were milkmen operating from Church House, where my sisters Susan and Judy and I grew up. Nan and Grandad lived in the bungalow next door. We went to the village school which had just two teachers, Miss Lockhart for the little ones and Miss Sills for the bigger children. Seeing the picture of the forge I remember playing in it before it was demolished. It was a lovely place to grow up in

MessageI have recently come across a photo album of a past relative, who used to go to Nonington College, other wise known as St. Albans, in 1937. There are news paper cuttings about the Duke of Kents visit, and many photos of the girls who attended the college for it's physical education. There are references to it's conection to Finland, and it's teachings to young ladies of the Swedish system of gymnastics. If anybody would be interested in this history of the College, please feel free to contact me.

MessageI love the new and improved site

I am researching my family history and its great to see where my family once lived. Christopher and Henry Spain,
previous owners of the forge are my ancestors and i visited Nonington last spring.. what a beautful village it is!

All the residents i spoke to were very pleasant and informative.

The stroll around the churchyard brought up a headstone of a John Spain.. i'm still trying to find the link for that so maybe another trip is needed!

Keep up the good work!

Lesley

MessageLovely web site. Delighted to find it with the wealth of info on Garlinge family.
I am tracing family tree of my wife whose grandmother was a Garlinge (Bertha)born at Nonnington in 1887. It appears that her father Alfred was brother to the Lydia who married into the Rogers line. So we share the line from then onwards. Thanks a million!
