MessageThis is Christine Alvis, proud daughter of Donald Dean Alvis, your Namnesia Antidote for October 3. How dare you!!! Who on Gods earth put it into your head to use my Fathers death in Vietnam to promote your point of view? I am outraged, he would be too. Aside from the fact he would have totally disagreed with most of what you are promoting, this is a completely disrespectful and inappropriate use of his good name. I realize his death is a matter of public record but where is your decency? Have you no thought to those he left behind who would not appreciate your use of our family member? I am requesting that you immediately remove my fathers name from your web site and refrain from using it in any way in the future. I would be sending this same message to any other group who would use his name inappropriately. I will be checking back.

Thanks for checking back. Your father’s name will remain unchanged. As a point of reference, his name does not appear on October 3. It seems to me outrageous that a daughter would not know her own father’s birthday (April 15) or date of death (February 9). His name also appears in the age of death listing for those 22 years and in their tenth month old. Figuring the age of discernment comes at seven, you would have to have been born when he was less than 16 years old for you to know HIS true thoughts on anything. If that were the case, I would question his thinking about having a child that young.

I continue to find it outrageous that family members of fallen service members, believe the only way to honor their dead is by having more families with dead family members. Supporting the troops IS NOT SYNONYMOUS with supporting the wars. I support the troops by wanting them brought back home before any more are killed.

MessageThank you for remembering and honoring my cousin, George Merritt Wisham, Jr. His father has since passed and his mother is in a nursing home. He is survived also by two sisters. We are a military family with nearly all the men through my generation (and me) serving in the U.S. military. The tradition has been carried on by several of my cousins and their children. My daughter is a proud military spouse to a submariner, but we all remember and honor "Georgie" and his sacrifice. He did not need to serve, as he did his military service in the Marine reserves. However, he then attended college in Army ROTC, graduated and began his service as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He died in his first action, along with his senior officer. My grandmother passed the December before he died, which in retrospect may have been a blessing, for he truly was my family's "golden boy." My heart goes out to all of those other families who have also lost loved ones in Iraq, Afghanistan and I am sorry to say "all the others."

MessageInteresting thing. The number associated with James T Davis KIA Vietnam is 24. Not sure exactly how that happens - but - Sp Davis was spoken of directly, by name, by President Johnson as 'the first American to die in Vietnam in defense of our freedom'.

APL replies:
These causality numbers are directly derived from the memorial wall. President Johnson may have had many reasons (none good for the country) not to acknowledge the previous 23 deaths.

Messagebeing from ohio it gets harder and harder to be comfortable being a liberal. although i believe we have it backwards these days. it seems that anyone who acted out in their past (you might say liberally), at some point decides they are now grown up and start considering themselves conservative and start making all sorts of rules for everyone else to follow that they either did not have to do or did not live by. i have always thought every one should be treated equally and kindly with compassion without doing it because there is a rule, mommy or daddy said so, or it says it in "the good book". cause you knowgod might punish you. scary times!! speak up they do!

MessageAs the friend of Richard Toby Trujillo, which I was wounded by the same explosion that killed him. You have no do not know of what you speak. And to use these men's memories this way gives insight to you.

MessageSometimes it's really that simple, isn't it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.
