MessageWhat Claude Giroux said and did on the first shift yesterday is the stuff legends are made of.

MessageFirst off Goon, I constantly have 200lb men bearing down on me in the school hallway, in the grocery store, in the church nursery so that argument holds no air. I turn them all back just like I did to you when we were 12 years old. The championship strap is still hanging on my wall.

Second, we should distinguish different types of toughness. Physically, the Canucks are tough enough (except for Raymond) but its mentally where they lag. With the gifts that Kesler has, it is pathetic to see him flopping all over the ice and whining to the refs.

I can't believe how bad the goaltending has been in the Phil/Pitt series. If Fleury gets his game back even halfway, Pitt has a good chance.

Finally, why doesn't the NHL take a hard stand against cheapshots and all the garbage we've seen this year? How about this genius idea...up the punishment if they can't learn. How about massives fines to both the player and the team? I'm talking about 1/5 of a players salary and the same for the team. Hitting may dissappear but what else can they do?

MessageWow - what a crazy play-offs! Every series has some craziness to it.

The two teams I picked for the finals are the first to be on the brink. Though these play-offs are wild enough to have two 3-0 series leads blown.

As per the rants between a soft vs bad-luck Canucks series.

I agree with both Cam/Phil and Goon. Yup, the Canucks are w/o Daniel, hurts big time with the parody. The Kings are a hugely formidable 8th seed. Man, would it be good to have Hodgson now.
Kesler's year last year would help too.

However, the Canucks need some thickness as Goon points out - though his style of toughness is probably a lot different than mine.

MessageI'm sure if you had Wiebe, Rob and myself lined up we would have a similar take on the issue of defending your teammates and the role of intimidation in the game of hockey. The common denominator in all 3 of us is we have been on the ice, been in those situations, and know what it's like to be on the ice or bench in the midst of a highly intense hockey battle. Not to take anything away from Phil or Cam's perspective or knowledge of the game, but you guys don't have first hand, in the moment experience of being on the ice, and having a 200lbs plus grown man bearing down on you, wanting to go to physical battle, and how that effects your mental game for the rest of the night. You'd be surprised at how easily a couple of punches to the face can open up scoring chances. When the other team takes that extra split second to look over their shoulder when getting to the puck, scoring chances are easier to come by.

MessageHa Goon... so you think not having a line brawl because your captain was drilled by a clean hit is a bigger problem than scoring zero goals? If thats the case, lets prop up Mike Tyson on the ice and promise him $500,000 for every knockout.

Last night the Canucks were clearly the better team but like last year, injuries and a hot goalie have caused the issues on the ice and in their heads. If Hansen's post goes in, then everyone would wildly swing to the pro-Canuck side again.

And Phil is bang on when he describes the Kings. Not the average 8 seed. I thought the series was awfully close before Sedin was deemed out. The league is just so close that losing your best goal scorer is pretty much a death sentence.
