MessageI'm working with Youth Choir in a large Catholic Church--St. Joe Basilica in Bardstown, KY. The church itself is historic, lending itself to chant and other pieces that enjoy reverberation. I like to spice the parish repertoire with Gregorian Chant (sung according to modern rhythmic understanding) and other a capella music as often as I can.

The kids, of course are not historic. 15-member choir, mixed boys and girls, grades 6,7 & 8.

MessageI have finally gotten my administration behind the idea of adding a Boy's select choir to my list of classes, and now am realizing the struggle in giving them quality music.

I have:

1 Select 8th Grade Mixed Chorus
1 Open 7th and 8th Grade Mixed Chorus
1 Select 7th Grade Girls Chorus
1 Select 7th Grade Boys Chorus

My boys do feel comfortable singing in a still higher head voice, and for some reason, our schools students put no stigma on this. The boy that is probably called my best singer in the school by his peers is almost totally still in a normal Alto range.

There's not a lot of material I've seen that is built for boys to sing, and still lets them stay in the higher ranges.

Please help me. Thanks.
