| Message | Great website! It gives a good glimpse into your heart, and your vision. I enjoy the Flint Hills, too. I occasionally visit the Wichita area, and my going and coming are blessed with the awe-inspiring views that the area evokes. And, although I wasn't born in Kansas, I know something of rural life there. I spent the years 1957-60 in Udall, Cowley County (which, you are no doubt too young to recall, was wiped out in the May 1955 tornado. They were still recovering and rebuilding when we went there from Tulsa). My high school years, 1960-65, were spent in rural Andover, near Wichita, and I went to school in Towanda, at the then-brand-new Circle High School. I spent those years working the summer wheat harvests in Caldwell, Kansas, for an old Bohemian farmer named Petrik. (Many memories of that time came flooding back when I recently re-read Willa Cather's "My Antonia", a truly wonderful book and an American classic.) See you Saturday, I hope. Thanks for all you do to make our writing lives better; I am blessed by your contribution to CWF. Best, Ken Wimbish |
