MessageMany of my Beacon House brothers have taken classes with you,and have nothing but good things to say about you. I personally enjoy and gain great insights from your monthly column in Steps for Recovery. God has also blessed me with the most wonderful job for a person in recovery. I work with the Mental Health Association, as a Personal Service Coordinator at the Village in Long Beach. The members (Village term for clients, much more friendly and equal)I work with, individuals with mental illness and often other compeling issues like addictions, are a challenge and a joy. They are also often my greatest teachers. Thanks to the 12 Step Recovery process, and a strong relationship with the Lord,my Higher Power, today I am able to connect with people and think about what I bring to the relationship, and often impact peoples lives in a positive way, quite different from the way things used to be ("what it was like"smilie-Praise God. Mary I do hope to one day meet with you, and would like to invite you to visit the Village sometime. I think that Village staff would greatly benefit from hearing you speak on any of a number of relevant topics. As a sold out 12 Stepper, I often struggle with the Village philosophy of Harm Reduction, although I have remained open minded enough to have come to recognize that AA is not the only path to recovery. Hope to meet you soon.
Respectfully,
Gary J. Barbagallo

MessageDear Mary Cook,

I am a fairly new student of yours at Dominguez Hills, but along my path in recovery,(which started almost twenty years ago), The Lord has brought into my life amazing and gifted people chosen by Him in order to help me through my next stage in life. In the past, these people have been like angels sent to me with words of wisdom and hope! One of these people was John Bradshaw-who has been a profound help to me-I will never forget him.

I do not think that I have room here to name all the dedicated and gifted "angels" of mercy who have helped me in and throughout my journey in recovery.

I believe that you are one of those people that the Lord has prepared for me to learn from! There are no accidents in this life but God sovereignly arranges our steps. I can see that you have a heart for people, and are someone with unique insight and wisdom. I percieve that you have had your own hurts and problems in the past-but have learned from them and have persevered. Your training has been in real life experiences as well as in the classroom.

I truly appreciate you as a person and a teacher! I hope to try to do my best to learn from you and be the best student that I can be. Thank-You! and May God Bless you all the days of your life!

MessageHi Mary, I am very impressed, your website is really nice. For someone that does not watch TV or like computers it is great. I interned my first group last night and I used my notes from ADX 300 for an education class. It felt really good to help to facilitate a group. You have been an inspiration to me and without your teaching and direction and most of all your unconditional love I would not be where I am today. Thanks Mary...to many more years of learning from you.
Love Always, Charley
