MessageI live in the Leland Towers in downtown Aurora. It has been open for years! The unusual smells in the frieght elevator are nothing more than the aroma of the garbage room on the bottom floor. Also, since most "haunted" descriptions of the building are off, it does not have 21 floors! smilie

MessageEnjoyed your site. One of my hobbies is collecting recipes, so I found your site quite interesting. Your pictures of old cookbook covers remind me of some that my grandmother had.

MessageReally enjoyed your site!

I recently inherited my grandmother's banana cake recipe and was having a devil of a time figuring out what "Spry" was!

Thanks to you, I now know I can substitute Crisco for the mysterious Spry (:

For what it's worth, my grandmother's banana cake *really was* to die for!

many thanks!
John

MessageYour Native American Sauce is not accurate. Native Americans - at least those North of what became the Mexican/US border did not use tomatoes. And horseradish is not native to North or South America, it is eurasian, and was introduced by colonists. So that sauce is not Native American in any shape or form.

MessageIn regards to Jenny Lind - there was also a style of furniture named for her. I had a Jenny Lind bed and dresser. And I have recently seen Jenny Lind baby cribs.

Virginia Dare was the first ever person born on American soil. I believe 1587. The Natives were especially enamored by her beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes. She may have been one of the people who starved (or whatever happened) in the early mysterious disappearance of a village, with the only thing left was 'Roanoke' carved on a tree. How nice they named a pudding after her!

Love your recipe collection. If I may, would like to use a link for it in my weekly Sunday Giggles and Some Other Stuff newsletter.
If you send me your email, I will send you a copy of my newsletter to review.

MessageYour Web site is WONDERFUL!

I can tell you who Jenny Dare is. She was a comic strip character. Check out this link:

My Mom was inspired to get her pilot's license thanks to this strip, back in the day when women just didn't DO those things!

Keep up the great work!

Nik
