MessageI think The Hollywood Librarian is a great project and I can't wait to see the finished product! I think it should go a long way to enlighten the world about the underappreciated and interesting work that Librarians do, as well as dispel/turn upside down some of the stereotypes presented in the cinema and media. I've already got my t-shirt! smilie Great work Ann!

MessageAs someone who spent her former life as a publicist, it is my hope that this documentary will create a sea change as to how the public views librarians and the work we do.

Go for it, Ann! smilie

MessageI saw Ms. Seidl's presentation and film clips at IUG this spring and was wowed and amazed. It's basically what our group of friends talked about in library school, back in the '70's at IU; the differences between the perception and reality of librarians and libraries, the possibilities of both and our own reasons for becoming librarians. (Most of us decided based on Desk Set and a desire to go to graduate school and avoid the cold hard world for yet another year) (But, it was the 70's, after all).

MessageAnn Seidel has entertained and enlightened staff from the 100+ public libraries in the Northeast Texas Library System with video clips and tales from her project. I am constantly being asked by our members about how the Hollywood Librarian project is progressing. Ann has the talent, spirit and topic to make this a homerun, something that will benefit so many parts of the library community.

MessageHow many times have we heard librarians described as an older lady with a bun in her hair, glasses hanging off her nose, very crude and with a finger at her mouth - shushhing everyone! More times than we can count, including the movies. But what Ann is providing is a reality check - the reality of the services librarians provide; the reality of the sacrifices librarians are willing to make; the technical know-how of librarians; the friendliness of librarians; and so much more! And they're not all females! I applaud Ann's and support her 100% of the way! Keep up the great work, Ann, and those out there reading this - take a look at her site and see what it is all about! A wonderful opportunity to learn what being a librarian is all about!

MessageI would like to add my voice to the chorus of those shouting (from libraries!) because we support The Hollywood Librarian. I think that all who care about libraries [including librarians; library users; city, town, school, & university administrators; and library supply, software, & consulting firms] can agree that is in our best interest to see that librarians are valued to their full worth. I believe that The Hollywood Librarian is the single most (literally) dramatic step that can be taken in that direction. I hope that all who read my message will join in support of this groundbreaking documentary film.

MessageA great project! People love libraries, but tend not to know much about what librarians do. And we do so many different things. Show me 5 librarians and I'll show you people with 5 very different jobs. Still at heart we all contribute to a very humanistic enterprise--helping people discover things about themselves and the world. Besides being good for the profession this film is timely for contributing to public discussion about our societal values. I think it will be entertaining, educational, and hopeful. We need this film on many levels.

I am very excited about the possibility of this film. The popular image of librarians is such that many people cannot believe that you need an advanced degree to be a librarian, and The Hollywood Librarian will go a long way toward rectifying that misconception. Now that I have said it in a professional manner, here is my real reaction: huzzah!
