pesanThere was a hope when the first Evangelical Christian Church was established in West Papua under Indonesian occupation in 1969 -- a hope that the Lord's church will lead its people to their freedom. But what happened then was that the church powerlessly witnessed the killing of thousands of its people during 1969 - 2005.

This month (February, 5th 2005) will mark 150 years of the history of the Papuan's faith in their Lord (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit). It's indeed a great happiness for all the Papuans to celebrate the third jubilee (yZ*Ul) which according to Jewish and Christian tradition (Leviticus 25) is the time when slaves are to be given FREEDOM and land which has been taken must be returned to its rightful owners.

However, early this year we have already had reports from West Papua that hundreds of the Lord's people are still being tortured, arrested, killed, etc.

We Papuans have been crying out for and praying for FREEDOM for 150 years.

The question that needs to be addressed in this special anniversary is:

How many more Jubilees will we West Papuans have to wait before we receive our FREEDOM?
GOD BLESS ALL OF US

FROM A PAPUAN BROTHER

Nah MOGA-MOGA INSOS BISA IKUT WARTAKAN KEBENARAN DAN KEJUJURAN TENTANG APA YANG SEBENARNYA TERJADI DIATAS KATORANG PUNYA TANAH TERCINTA INI.

pesanAlthough John Gottlob Geissler and Carl William Ottow are not well known in Europe because they came from poor families, however, to the Papuans their names are always in the hearts and minds of all Papuans forever.

With the work of the Holy Spirit changes began to happen in West Papua from that time. Houses were built, schools were established, the Gospel was taught to the Papuans. The Papuans felt that their life had changed since they knew God. Life in West Papua was peaceful and happy.

The presence of the Dutch missionaries and later the Dutch government made the people of West Papua feel that they were being lifted up by their foreign brothers and sisters who came to share the knowledge and the skills of life which they brought from their homeland.

The missionary work developed very fast during the Dutch occupation of West Papua. However, the West Papuans were betrayed by their Dutch brothers and sisters in 1962 when West Papua was handed over to Indonesia in the New York Agreement.

At the time of the 1969 Act Free Choice (as witnessed by the first Governor of West Papua under Indonesian Rule, Mr. E.J. Bonay), the people of West Papua burned their Bibles and did not want to believe in God because they felt that God did not do anything to help the West Papuans in that difficult situation.

pesanDear Insos,
Ini doa seorang anak Papua yang bersungguh-sungguh berdoa untuk negerinya Papua. Tolong diteruskan buat teman-teman insos di US. Thanks sebelumnya.

THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST MISSION IN WEST PAPUA

5th February 1855 - 5th February 2005

HOW MANY MORE YEARS DO WE HAVE TO WAIT LORD ?

The land of West Papua was baptized in the name the Lord on Sunday morning, the 5th of February 1855 when Johann Gottlob Geissler and Carl William Ottouw, two Dutch missionaries from Utrechtsche Zendings Vereeninging set foot on Mansinam Island, Manokwari - West Papua.

The first sentence that they uttered when they arrived in Mansinam was IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, WE SET FOOT ON THIS LAND.

Despite the fact that it took Ottow and Geisler over 10 years to receive their first convert, they had such a significant influence on spreading the gospel throughout Papua. (DILANJUTKAN KOLOM BERIKUTNYA)
