| Message | Yes, the new 2005 "Pride and Prejudice"(too serious) is not as good. The old one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is the 1995 A&E/BBC version. There is also a 1980 BBC version and an even older 1940 MGM version with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. I have all 4 versions. I guess you can tell I'm a big Jane Austen fan. "Pride and Prejudice" is really a comedy of manners and most movies fail to capture the comedy except the 1995 A&E/BBC version. It is hilarious.  There is also a new modern 2004 version titled, "Bride and Prejudice". It is a Bollywood Musical. It is not high drama or high art, but it's an romantic comedy / song-and-dance film that warms the heart. I have it also. I know, I am over the edge on this one.  |
