MessageNo Petra, it is not your place to decide. You can thank all of the crooks in the State House and Washington DC for that. I agree with you, but it IS the law. You can look at a few of my posts about sheep and see where I come from. At the end of the day, it IS not your decision what happens... VOTE!!!

MessageI totally agree on all of the stupid laws that have been made, supposedly for our own good. I was telling Dad that we need to just wipe out all the laws and go back to just the contitution. Having the government tell us what to do for our own good (as if we had no brains) is not freedom. And it looks like it is going to get worse.

MessageAndy didn't get angry with the cop about the helmet. He was just like 'yeah, so?' (we didn't wear helmets when we were kids and we're fine - we've never really made our kids wear helmets. I make Jarvis because he is a MANIAC on his bike, but that's it). The cop was like 'section 4365-b of the Fort Hood blah blah blah states that all children on a bicycle must wear their helmet'. Andy kind of sarcastically said 'okay thanks'. I don't remember what exactly was said, but it was so stupid. It was like 'does this cop not have anything better to do than to go around making notes of what kids are and are not wearing their helmet?' I guess I should be thankful the cops here aren't immersed in murderous crime scenes so they do have time to be all worried about trivial matters, but it can get annoying! smilie

MessageI agree with you and the seatbelt thing. But I agree even more about rude police. There is no need to act that way. They should set an example of respect for the kids that are watching him talk to thier mother. Tell me what happened when the cop knoked on the door regarding the helmet. What did Andy do?

MessageI agree about the seatbelt law. Thor's father never would wear a seatbelt. When he was in college back in the 40's he was involved in a terrible accident. He was in the front passenger seat traveling down a dark country road. There was a truck or wagon broke down in the road with no lights on it and they crashed into the back of it. The back of the vehicle they crashed into came right through the front widow and would have decapitated him if he had, had a seat belt on. As it was he was partially scalped him. I think the driver died.

The government is becoming more and more intrusive into our lives. Next thing you know we won't be able to pray in public schools or sing Christmas carols in public schools. Maybe they will tell me I can't sell my labor for under $5.15 an hour. Wait! We already can't! I wonder what is next.

By the way I always wear my seat belt, but it should be my choice.

As a believer in individual rights, one of the things I notice a lot today is just how many people do not trust individual decision-making. They distrust other people's free, private decision-making so much that they want the government to intervene. They love "for your own good" laws. We are going toward the "Nanny State" where the Government decides what is good for us instead of God through the Bible.

The very definition of adulthood is the legal ability to make decisions for oneself.

MessageI'm with you on the seatbelt law. I always wear a seatbelt, but that SHOULD be up to each person to decide. I mean I can understand laws that prevent people from hurting OTHER people....but if I want to ride around putting MY life in danger by not wearing a seat belt - that should be my choice.

Sounds like you had a wonderful experience with the cop there! I know I've had a few myself with cops who didn't think I was old enough to drive, and then trying to fabricate the "Real reason I pulled you over...." when they found out how old I was. smilie smilie
