| Message | I buy fall/winter clothes in the spring/summer and vice versa, all for pennies on the dollar... Doesn't really work for growing kids that well, but I've been the same size for 20+ years so it works out great for me... As far as the kids go though, we always try to go for the deals, because I'm NOT spending 20 - 30 bucks for a pair of jeans that will get worn for 2 months... And we don't have the luxury of hand me downs, because Chances hand me downs don't fit Tanner... ![]() |

| Message | Another thing... lol... I have friends who spend like $150 on jeans or $300 on a purse. That's not me. Andy FORCED me to splurge on a nice purse and wallet for my birthday this year - which I LOVE and am really enjoying having... but even that was like $75 for the purse (and I cringed during the transaction). I bought one I liked though - no WAY would I pay hundreds of dollars for something JUST because of a logo or name brand! That seems ludicrous to me. I do buy certain name brands if I know they are good quality - like I love New Balance tennis shoes - they fit me perfect, and just got a pair last summer on clearance for 40 bucks (I have spent more on them in the past though). Express used to be my fave blue jeans (until they changed their sizing charts to make people feel skinnier, but made it so their 0's were huge on me), but I would buy them once a year when they had their annual jeans sale so I got them for half price. I think bargain hunting is fun - it's like a game to me. And outlet malls - I LOVE outlet malls!! ![]() |

| Message | Another example of what I spend (for the curious and those who wonder if they are spending a lot or a little on their kids clothes)... Brittany and Justice's blue jeans usually cost between 15 and 20 bucks. The younger kids, I try to find them closer to 10 or 12 bucks. Jacob? I look for jeans that are 6.99 at like Target! T-shirts, we usually find those for any/all of the kids for between 3 and 10 bucks. Andy tends to spend more than I do. He goes for quality first, I go for price first (if they are just going to outgrow it). My clothes - if it's something I want to last - like a good pair of shoes? I'll spend big bucks. I have some $80 boots... that might not be "big bucks" to some, but it is to me. If it's something that is trendy and I'm only going to wear it a season, maybe two? I won't spend more than 15 bucks, no matter WHAT it is. Which is one of the reasons I don't see how some women spend $100 per pair of pants on maternity pants!!! Wow. I got six pairs for $42 on ebay!! They aren't the first pants I would pick if I had a kazillion dollars to spend? Not in a long shot - BUT... they will work for six months!!! blue jeans that I'll wear for a couple of years though? I'll spend $40 or $50 on those if they fit me perfect. Am I boring anyone? ![]() |

| Message | Matt - I completely agree. Gina - Girl, how do you afford that stuff? We make the same amount of money basically!!! I mean, I like name brand stuff as much as the next girl, but ya know - five kids on a military salary. And plus, spending a lot on a kid that's going to outgrow something the next day is hard for me. I mean, I can see the coat you are talking about if it lasts three years!!! But my kids don't get much in the way of name brand clothes/shoes... The older kids, especially Brittany since her feet are done growing, get nicer shoes - like Nike or New Balance because they last so much longer, but if they have name brand clothes it's because I found a good deal! Same with me actually - it's been a long time since I splurged on clothes for myself (every few years, though, I go on a wardrobe building rampage... it's probably time to do that again - maybe after this baby comes). ![]() |

| Message | Petra, I so wish I had that thrifty gene. I'm such a snob when it comes to buying clothes whether it be for myself or my kids. I just bought the five year old a $150 Spider Ski Jacket because someone, we think, stole her last Spider coat. Spider coats come with that growth material so when she starts to get too tall or the arms too short, you can let the material out an inch and half. The coats usually last her about three years on average. It's the only brand she has ever had. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie. I think Tommy and I are way over due for a date night. Maybe we will do that this weekend. Have a great night!!! |

| Message | The Patriot may have been "violent", but then it was war, and the British were pretty violent, so it's our history, I wouldn't call it violence, it's more fact than anything... ![]() |

| Message | Violence in movies doesn't bother me. I don't usually even notice unless I'm watching with the kids. I mean, I won't watch a movie just because of the violence, by any means - but I don't usually flinch when someone's arm falls off and starts spurting blood. But then, the first movie I saw in a theater when I was like 8 or 9 was "Silent Night Deadly Night" where Santa Claus goes around killing everyone (my older siblings took me? They tried covering my eyes, but yeah - I could see through their fingers). I'm jaded. Oh - and the theory of kids watching violent movies and then becoming violent???? I've never been violent AT ALL. I'm very peaceable... so that theory goes out the window. ![]() |

| Message | I liked The Patriot, but didn't like how violent it was, but I enjoyed the history part of it. My favorite actor of the movie was the littlest girl, don't know why. |
