Message(Thursday 1835) Another day over. The highligt of the day was most definitely when PLA came over and took me to the Hawk hangar and gave me a guided tour of the jet, which ended with a tour of the cockpit. He then closed the canopy and let me enjoy the office on my own for a while. It's a nice jet and it sure helps me focus in order to get the chance to fly it in about nine months time or so. It's going to be awesome!

Message(Wednesday 1925) We had a briefing by the commandant this morning at 0800, who had some bad news for us. Unfortunately a tragic event took place at school yesterday as one of the students committed suicide. He had just finished Phase IIA, the course that we're doing right now, and was told that he couldn't become a pilot due to some reason. I don't think I knew the guy but it still feels close when a fellow student goes through something like that. I just hope that his family are ok considering the circumstances.
Otherwise not much new from this front. The weather was really cold the last couple of days but it is forecasted to get really good in the coming days, so I won't be surprized if some of us get put on the flight schedule for Saturday.

Message(Monday 1345) My instructor is in Regina so my flight got cancelled. Apparently he took off from here but couldn't land here again since the weather closed in, so he flew to the alternate. So now he's there waiting for Moose Jaw to open up again so he can fly back, but by the time he gets here it's too late for me to fly. It's ok - I'm used to it by now.
We had our first two lessons of IFP block two this morning. Block two is basically going to be about how to read and interpret approach plates so it's going to be both interesting and very relevant.
I met PLA in the map room just after lunch break and he was planning a low level navigation flight with a target (a bridge) using imaginary weapons on the Hawk. He can basically plan the trip the way he wantsm including all waypoints and target of choice. Then he gets to fly the trip at 450kts at 250 feet AGL (above ground level). That must be awesome! For me that is motivation enough to do my best and get the Hawk.
Now it's time to sit in class and wait for nothing to happen.

Message(Sunday 1245) The weather was relatively warm this weekend. Yesterday we had -10C or so, so my little boy and I made sure to do some outdoor activites. First we flow model aircraft and then we tried his new kite that he got for his birthday. We had a great time playing in the snow and later on at the swings. The snow is getting to be a problem now though. Back home when it snows it all melts away after a few days but here it just accumulates and by now it's getting really annoying.
I'm supposed to be flying tomorrow if all goes after plan. Apart from that we'll be starting block two of the theory in IFP (Instrument Flight Procedures). Hopefully it won't get in the way of my flight. I got a new instructor by the way. My assigned instructor has been moved to "Standards" which means that in the future he'll be a check pilot instead of instructor. To be honest I'm not too happy to lose my assigned IP as I felt that I learned alot from him on the only flight that we flew together. Now I got a new IP assigned to me and hopefully he's just as good.

Message(Thursday 2025) All the Danes except from myself were on the flying programme today but none of us got airborne. Early in the afternoon a blizzard moved in and gave us "less than ideal" flying conditions so the flying porgramme was put on stand-by and later on the tower closed down and ceased the flying programme. Otherwise it's positive that they're starting to throw us on the programme.
I uploaded a video of my F16 model. I guess if you can't get to fly the real stuff you have to satisfy yourself with the small ones.

Message(Wednesday 1505) The sim ride went really well. I felt ahead of the aircraft most of the time and the instructor seemed very satisfied with my work and preparation. It feels great when you do a good job. So far I got a "snake" for all five sims and the one flight so I want to do my best to keep it up. More importantly I felt that I really learned alot from today's sim.
After school I plan on flying my F16 model. COM and RIS would like to be present as they are planning on buying a model themselves, and so is JOR.
That's it for now.

Message(Tuesday 2140) I'm on tomorrow's programme for a sim ride. I look forward to it and feel well prepared. Yet I think I'll go through the red pages an extra time before going to bed, just to be on the safe side. Studying almost went to a complete hault during the Christmas holidays, so I feel that I have some catching up to do.
The weather seems like it's going to get warm for a week or so. According to the forecast we should have temperatures around the freezing point this weekend. Having fixed the battery issue with my car I've enjoyed driving it lately, even though the conditions dictate very slow driving. The Corvette dudes have had less fun with their cars. Two of them have had the battery frozen so they won't start. The third one, which sleeps in a garage, was given an attempt to drive a few days ago but never made it to the street as it got stuck in snow in the drive way. I suppose the police officers who pulled us over on the way here were right that I'd be better off in a Mustang compared to the Corvettes. None the less, I REALLY look forward for July...

Message(Monday 2000) First day at school in the new year was rather uneventful. I read the monthly publications, also known as the AIF's (Aircrew Information File) which get updated every month. This time they got updated with new procedures for the training area and on how to return to base in a way that deconflicts the traffic.
After school I got home and realized that the temperature was only -14C and there was almost no wind. So I got my newly built F16 model and test flew it. It went great and only needed a few notches of roll trim to fly straight and level. Last time I flew my A4 Skyhawk it almost ended up as a hole in the snow. The servos simply almost completely stopped functioning because it was too damn cold.
None of us Danes were on today's programme and none of us are on tomorrow's programme either. Hopefully we get flying before too long - and once we do start flying again, I hope that we keep doing so regularly, at least every second day.
Next Monday we start block two of IFP (Instrument Flight Procedures). I heard that it's quite a hard subject but I look forward to it none the less.

Message(Sunday 1750) My last day of this Christmas holiday. It was great and I feel that I got the best out of it even though we didn't go on any wild trips.
Today was my little boy's birthday so we had a children's party. He turned two so he's quite aware of what goes on around him. All the Danish kids in Moose Jaw were invited so it was a crowded place in here but it was great.
Tomorrow it's back to school and I feel recharged and ready for a new round. Hopefully we'll be flying a bit more often than we did before going on holidays. Otherwise I really don't know how we're going to finish the course in time. If we have to be realistic we need to fly about twice a day from now on to finish in time, considering that there are non-flying days due to weather, bird-migration and other problems.
Lookin back at 2008, it wasn't such a bad year after all. I did alot of travelling, having visited Norway, Sweden, Germany, USA, Canada and three times to the Netherlands. Apart from that I graduated from the RDAF Academy, getting the important Second Lieutenant stripe on my shoulder. Graduating meant that I wrote a bachelor assignment, which was something that I never thought I would do, so I do feel a sense of accomplishment about that. I also had the centrifuge training and hypoxia training, both of which went ok. Then I had a great road trip in the USA, which I had always dreamt of visiting, yet never imagined that I would drive around in (my own) Mustang GT. 2009, here I come!
