(Thursday 1335) The rumors about the course getting postponed were confirmed today. The start date is now 1st March instead of 22nd February. It suits me fine with another easy going week before we start. Today I went down to the ALSE shop and got my g-suit fitted. ALSE stands for Aircrew Life Support Equipment. They're the guys who fit the helmet, mask, g-suit, harness, life jacket etc. for you. I'm kind of hoping that Bandit flight will send me on the cross country trip tomorrow. If so, I'll be in the States until Monday or so. The weather is really crappy here. The temperature warmed up the last few days so we got alot of fog and clouds and now it's snowing. The forecast for the next few days doesn't look too promising either. It would be nice to get out of this hole and go South to some better weather and a bunch of flying. /GEA

(Tuesday 2000) My little boy was watching this TV programme where this guy took his boy with him to his work place and he soon "came up" with an idea. So guess where he's going tomorrow. I'm probably more excited about it than he is. One thing I'm less excited about is getting my yearly dental done tomorrow afternoon. It will probably always be one of the things I hate doing most. I mean what kind of sadistic kid wants to become a dentist when he grows up? That's it for now. I'm almost hoping that our Hawk course gets postponed by a week so I can get the T6 cross country done this weekend. So far there have been rumours about the course getting postponed but nothing confirmed. /GEA

(Sunday 2010) The wife is back home so we're happy indeed. They were nine hard days but now it's over. That's all I wanted to say. Tomorrow I plan on staying home just until things are settled back in place and she feels a bit stronger. /GEA

(Friday 1205) It's a week on and she's still in. Hopefully she'll be out shortly but we're not counting on anything. The support from our little community has been great. Some of the Candians have come with food and invited myself and my little boy over for supper. It's great to feel that people are there for you when you need it. That's it for now. I plan on going to work for a few hours on Monday to do some catching up. That's of course, unless the wife gets "released" in which case I'll go back to work on a regular basis. /GEA

(Tuesday 2305) Shortly after I wrote last Friday I had to take my wife to the hopsital. I wish I could say that it's nothing serious but I can't. Her kidneys aren't well. She's still there and these past few days have been hard for all of us. Hopefully she'll be out tomorrow, but nothing is sure yet. In the meantime the cross country plans are put on hold for my part. We'll see how things are on Friday and then we'll take it from there. One thing is sure: It's hard to be a single parent. Fortunately my boss gave me all the time off that I need until things are under control but I've been at work for a few hours yesterday and an hour or so today to get my seat-check done before it runs out tomorrow. The good thing is that this happened while I'm in between two courses so it's not like I'll be missed if I'm away for a few hours every day. /GEA

(Friday 1325) Another week almost over. Today we got our course-end report which we had to read and then sign. It's basically a letter from Bandit Flight saying how you did on the course. I finished as number 2 in class. The Flight Commander congratulated me but I quickly pointed out that number 2 is like being the biggest of all the losers. You are number 1 - of all the losers. Jokes aside, I'm happy with the results. RIS made the first spot. He's a sharp kid! Out of the original 16 (10 Canadians and 6 Danes), 13 of us completed the course. Apart from that I found out how many hours I have to burn next week. I have 11.6 hours left and the other two who will join along (RIS and COM) also have similar hours, so we should get quite a good cross country out of it. The plan is the original old plan to fly West to the coast, doing some low level in the Candian Rockies along the way, then South along the coast of Vancouver Island to Seattle and then further South to South Lake Taho, maybe San Francisco and we'll try to push to Catalina Island. Then on the way home we'd like to fly to Sedona again, Monument Valley and maybe Aspen. If the weather's crappy out West initially we'll fly the route the other way round. We also have to find out what restrictions there are in connection with the Olympics which start this week in Vancouver. There will be F18's patrolling the skies over the area 24/7 and probably a gazillion civilian aircraft and helicopters. We'll see. Whatever we get, it's going to be great fun. Tonight we're off to get some burgers at James's (one of our Canadian course mates), then off to the Bandit welcome party for the new guys and afterwards we'll crash at the Dane bar. The weekend is here! /GEA

(Thursday 0050) I'm on my way to bed soon or else I'll be a real asshole at work tomorrow if I don't get my sleep. Apparently I have ten hours to be flown on the T6. The plan is to launch COM and myself on a cross country next weekend. So this coming week will go with a bunch of planning and getting back into the T6 systems. I'll probably take a practise sim or two just to get the checks in place again. With regards to the T6 model. It's coming along nicely and should be ready to fly before I start the Hawk course. I have made a thread on RC-Groups so if you're interested in the building process, take a look and I update the thread a couple of times a week. Here's the link: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1167618 That's it for tonight. Good night! /GEA

(Monday 2000) I thought that I was done flying the Harvard but it turns out that I still have some flying hours to go and they have to be flown. The reason for that is simply because they're paid by the Air Force in advance and according to the contract they have to be flown or else the Danish government will only get refunded 10% of what they actually cost, so our boss wants to make sure that we get full value for money. So what they'll do is probably give us a few formation flights or maybe a mini cross country if there's enough hours. In my case I think I have five or six hours so it should be enough to go away for a weekend to some interesting places. Just as long as it's not somewhere that I've been to already. I better start researching the area within range. I'll update as soon as I know more. In the meantime, tomorrow I'll go back to the librarian and ask for my T6 checklist. I can't wait to see the expression on her face when I tell her that it's because I failed the course and they want me to redo it. /GEA

(Sunday 1140) It's been almost a week since I last wrote so I guess it's about time. Well, not much has happened since then and I basically just want to tell you that I'm still alive and all. JØR and COM have also finished their course so there are only two left now. Apparently it's going to be us five Danes and one of my Italian friends, Pasquale, on the Hawk course. I've done a bunch of work on the T6 model. The wings are almost ready with the retractable gear installed, navigation and strobe lights installed and all the servos for the gear and for the ailerons. Today I'll do some more work on the fuselage and probably order the last few parts for the power system. /GEA

(Tuesday 1930) I finally got my Hawk courseware today. It's a handful but I didn't waste any time, so I started reading the MFT (Manual of Flying Training) out of sheer curiosity. When I got home I quickly went upstairs to find all the Harvard courseware so that I can deliver them back tomorrow. As I was taking the cockpit poster down from the wall, my kid looked at me, confused, as if his whole world was falling apart in spectacular fashion. He simply couldn't understand why it had to go. It had always been there... Then I put the Hawk cockpit poster up instead and he looked at it, carefully, for a few seconds, looked at me and went: "Space-ship, dada?" "No, kiddo, it's just the Hawk." He smiled and left the room. That's it for today. /GEA
