MessageMiss Makiface girly girl,

I am not going to be a foreing exchange student, actually. I hope I have a good family as well. Are they really going to love me? Do I get hugs and stuff like that? I love hugs. I haven't gotten a good one since I left home. Plus feeling part of a family is what I look for.

Why did you have to stay with a host family for two weeks of high school?

GREAT! You will help me out!? AWESOME! 'Cause I have like a billion questions! So how do you want to do it? E-mail me or I'll e-mail? Instant Messaging (like AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN)? My telepathy is very poor so we can't use that. Let me know!

MessageHi Mike. How nice! Are you exchange student? When you need a help, I will help you if possible. I have stayed with a family in my high school days, but only 2 weeks. I used my imagination, however I couldn't image I'm staying with my host family for 8 months! We, Japanese tend to take care of our guest and your host family will do. So, sometimes you may feel annoying, but they just love you. If you don't need their help, you have to better tell them like that. I hope you have a wonderful family in Japan smilie

MessageTokyo. I will be staying there for 8 months. I'm going to be living with a host family. I have trouble more with certain grammatical constructions more than the kana/kanji mix, actually. I wish you could help me out but I know you must be busy. The place I'm staying in is something like blahblahblah Toshima-ku or something. I'm used to houses with simple street names so this is a big change. I was so happy to happen upon your diary (by accident) that I posted about you in my own 'diary' 'cause I'm a big nerd. Maybe it's 'cause I know nobody in Japan. Maybe I should have thought about that one like a year ago. Whoops.

By the way, do you have a word in Japanese that means I'm staying in your house for 8 months and I'm too grateful?

MessageHi Mike.

Sounds nice! So, where are you going to visit? Since you study Japanese, you will learn about Japan, our lifestyle, people, culture... while you stay in Japan smilie I think. I'm sure textbooks and teachers don't tell you about that.

Well, thank you again for reading my Japanese diary. Sometimes I have same feeling with you, so I will understand how difficult to read something that is written in foreign language. I always don't understand completely, but I look up the words in English dictionary and I can image what are you saying. However, we use Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, Japanese English and other, so reading will be really hard work for Japanese learners. Please keep studying!

Thank you

MessageMiss Maki,

My gosh! I'm going to Japan in 9 days and I forgot the reason I'm even planning this trip! I've never been so far away from home and I don't speak Japanese! And I'm talking in all exclamation points (so you know how bad it is). Aaah please make me less nervous!

Pluuuus I'm 19 and come from New York. I like walks in the rain and sitting on the beach at night watching the waves (and the stars, too). I've lived in New York all of my life but now I'm in California. I can't remember the reason why I took this trip anyway. Why am I here? Hrm.

I'm supposed to be going to Japan in 9 days... well, now 8... but for language studies.

This thing keeps saying my message is too long. No it's NOT!

I try and read your Japanese diary but after like an hour my eyes start to bleed (it's really gross). But please keep writing... since... it's sort of fun! I do like bleeding from my eyes every now and then.

What else to say about myself. Hrm hrm hrm... or was this supposed to be about you? I can't remember anymore. Or maybe I wasn't supposed to write anything like this in the first place.

But I did get to meet a lot of new people.

See you,
Mike

MessageHi Mika. Thank you for your message. げんきだよ smilie

Though your classmate made mistake, I think he have acquaintance with Japanese, so he could have the idea. I mean I do not familiar with Swedish, therefore I can not even mistake smilie

Meaning of 大バカ is not just stupid. When child did stupid things and said something silly things, and then Mom and Dad will say like this この大バカ者(mono)!! smilie

Thank you

Makiko

Messageおはよう ございます。
どう ですか。
Sorry for not writing for a while , but I haven't been through any amazing experiences anyway smilie

I've got a really nice, old japanese lady as my teacher in beginners japanese. It's really fun, even though I don't know verbs enough to make real conversation. But I've got a few years to pick it up.
During yesterday's lesson it was kinda fun when another of the students asked what おうばか meant in swedish, and Shuziko-sensei (don't know her name in kanji yet) tried to explain it, and when he realised it meant an exceptionally stupid person, he then thought that すみません、 おてあらいは どこ ですか was like asking Excuse me, where do I find a really, really big toilet smilie We couldn't resist laughing to him. It's not that easy to hear the difference between single and double o:s when spoken, so it was a funny beginner's mistake.

They told me some good news, that swedish people are gonna be able to take out international exam at the universities here. Then I hope I can take out my final exam in Japan later smilie

Have a nice time!
