MessageWow what a blast from the past as they used to say. I have many fond memories of KROY and most of the DJ's down through the years. I started out living on KROY WAY in 1949 don't remember listening to much radio then as I was born that year, but I do remember the radio tower at the end of the street. I took notice around the time I started jr high started noticing the ladies about the same time. The Girls, the Cars and KROY, those are some very fond memories. My favorite DJ was Tony Bigg. Where is he now?
Thanks for the momories.

MessageI grew up in Sac, graduating from Encina Hi School in 1961. I didn't know what a treasure KROY was, I just took it for granted. Tony Bigg, Jack Hammar, and Mark Ford were the most important names that I recall. Mark was the music director and he played Long Tall Sally and Tutti Frutti by Little Richard, while KXOA was going out on a limb with this Rock and Roll Music by Pat Boone. Thank you Mark, thank you KROY. I might never have heard Dale Hawkin's Suzie Q, til Credence played it. Or Rumble by Link Wray til it showed up on an oldies show. KROY cut the color barrier when it was very real in radio. KROY was cutting edge and set the pattern for me as Program Director of KRBE Houston and KSTN Stockton, carrying on the KROY and Drake tradition from 1970-80. Those Ripples from KROY are still flowing thorough the industries airwaves. Thanks again KROY. RIP

Message1240 KROY was my 3rd radio gig after getting my feet wet in Idaho. All nights on Arden Way. Great people... Terry Nelson, Bob Castle, Ken Sutherland. I was back at 1240 KROY when it was under the SaddleRock in Old Sacramento in 1978. Another enjoyable tour of duty on a great ol' station.

MessageLooks like the previous entries are gone, so I'll re-enter mine. First, I was stationed at Beale AFB from 11/69 - 8/73 and listened to KOBO in Yuba City, but whenever I was in Sacramento I listened to KROY exclusively. Although I grew up in St. Louis and enjoyed KXOK AM 630 in it's heyday, I just happened to be able to enjoy KROY in its greatest age. Every jock had his own personality, but the station had that Music Power format that set it apart from all others, especially the famous time zip. What a great four years in my life and what a great radio station to pull it all together! I think I can safely say that we all STILL love the Wonder Rabbit! Thanks to all!
