MessageI lived next door to Tony Cox in the 80s and worked as an "intern" at both the Old Sac and Bercut drive studios. Everyone I went to school with loved Kroy and it was even better when we could call in and get Tony to say something about us on the air! Great times that I will never forget.

MessageI listen to KROY for years and was a big part of the Arden Fair snow disaster in which Gene Lane is very well known for his part it was to be a snowman building contest between Luther Burbank High & John F Kennedy High which turn out to be the biggest snow ball fight that almost shut down Arden way and almost flooded the studios of KROY it was great oh don't forget the dedications and the contest the top on radio won alot of records.

MessageI remember listening to KROY in the late 60's and early 70's. Chuck Roy, Gene Lane, T.Michael Jordan, Bob Sherwood, Johnny Hyde and Wonder Rabbit were the greatest DJ's I ever heard on any radio station. I don't think there was ever a radio station that did all the promotions and community events that KROY did during the Music Power days. I remember Gene Lane, Chuck Roy, and Wonder Rabbit and others playing many basketball games at various high schools around the city. I went to Mira Loma H.S. and I remembering them playing there against the student faculty. The music format was great and you felt that the DJ's were relating to you on a personal level. You felt like they were all a personal friend of yours. It was pure genius in marketing and promotion and KROY was the #1 station for many years. I still remember the Music Power Award of the Hour. You would think I would have forgotten that after all these years. It's a real shame that radio has gone the way it has. I live in Dover, Delaware but I still reminiscence about my teenage years in Sacramento and the great music of the 60's and 70's. Thanks to all you guys for the wonderful memories. God bless all of you

MessageI can remember listening to KROY on my transistor radio with the rest of the kids on my street. We would all put our radio's together and tune in. The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Peter and Gordon, The Rolling Stones. I can remember moving to San Jose on Oct.31,1966. As we drove away that night, looking out the back window of my parents 1958 Chevy, watching Sacramento and listening to KROY fade away.
I was 9 years old then. I am almost 50 now, living in the Seattle area. Thats the kind of impact your station had on people.I am afraid radio will never be the same again. Great memories. I Thank you for them.

MessageWhen my family moved to Sacto in 1954, the only Radio Station a teenager wanted to listen to was KROY! Thank you all for making my teen years bearable. You were great and I miss you!! I got married in 1960 and still listened to you, along with my family. You guy's came out to Country Club Center in 1964 when we at American River JC had our " dance " stand.
Again, thanks for all the memories!

MessageI had the pleasure of working at KROY for a short period of time. After listening to the station as a young kid growing up in Sacramento in the 60's and early 70's...it was awesome to land my modest first job in broadcasting at KROY. I started as an intern in the news department with Ann Schmidt in '82 and then Dennis Newhall asked if I would work on the jock side. Needing any experience..I jumped at the chance. So there I was, a rookie, at the controls of an FM rocker..KROY. Martin Ashley was there and a great inspriation behind the scenes. He had helped design those studios on Commerce Circle and they were relatively new and high tech for their time. It was a great experience.... I would end up at another radio station I grew up with. I moved on to KXOA (K108) then KGNR. I left Sac in 1985 and for the last 21 years I've been a TV news reporter and anchor, the last 11 in Miami. Still the KROY days were the best...being just a small part of a station with such a great history was an unforgettable experience.

All the best

Mark Schumacher (Mark Gerard when I jocked)

MessageHI,
I arrived in Davis, Ca in 1987 and stayed there for one year. I was 14 then, but having lived in a communist country I really appreciated great times spent listening to 97 KROY. I still have loads of cassettes filled with hits of those and earlier times. Thanks a lot for wonderful music and memories. smilie

Messagesmilie I love WONDER RABBIT. I also love GENE LANE. It was hard to get KROY in Stockton, but I did at times. Would love to get in touch with Gene Lane if anyone has an e-mail address. Gene would remember me more from when he worked in Stockton.
