MessageReference to The A1 at Lloyds pub Regent Road Liverpool. You state that the pub was on the corner of Porter Street which is incorrect. The pub was on the corner of Walter Street by Stanley Dock. About the photo that shows a pipe line going over and across Regent road. The pipe line was part of a project by Mersey Docks and Harbour Board(MDHB) to import Rum by tanker instead of using wooden barrels which would save a lot money as wood was so expensive. The pipe line went from the Nelson dock to Stanley warehouse(now the Titanic Hotel) which was opposite the 'Tobacco Warehouse' on the other side of the Stanley Dock. The intention was then to bottle the rum at Stanley warehouse. The project was abandoned in 1978 because MDHB could not come to agreement over pay structure with the TGW Union for those people working on the bottling line. The Union insisted that women should be paid the same rate of pay as men for working on the same bottling line.
