MessageMy father was evacuated from Dunkirk, and always said that he owed his safe return to Captain Lightoller. Was this Richard Lightoller, son of Charles Lightoller, who himself rescued some 130 soldiers in his yacht Sundowner?

MessageHi All
My brother Mark Lightowler put me on to this site. I've had some research done into the Lightowler and Lightoller line. Just curious to see if there is a link. Well, records show William Lightowler who married a Sarah. They had a son Joseph L, Born 1826 in Wibsey, Bradford, occupation Warpdresser, he married Maria born 1821, Bradford.
On the Lightoller side, going back 3 generations, Timothy Lightoller was born 1783 in Brindle, Lancs, died 1842, occupation cotton spinner. He is listed in the 1841 census as LIGHTOLLER, yet his baptism in 1783 shows his family name as LIGHTOWLERS. He married Ann Ashton in 1817. Interesting......more research needed! Can anyone add to either of these lines?
Alice - you said you and Paul have got back to 13th Century - can you elaborate? If I can work out how, I'll post the trees I have so far. Paul, maybe you could email me to see let me know if this is possible on this site? Happy hunting!

MessageMy husband's g-grandmother was Eleanor Lightowler, immigrated to US in 1912 and married Walter Dean. Her parents were Timothy & Harriet (Hargreaves) L., g-parents were Edward and Hannah (Ingham?) Lightowler. Family history says they were related to Charles G. but no proof and name spelled differently. Would like to know if anybody has researched this line?

I recently found out that a "distant cousin" of mine, John Poingdestre, worked lifeboats w/ Charles G. on the Titanic, and John was manning the lifeboat that pulled Charles G. out of the ocean. Would be neat if my husband and I shared this connection. smilie

My father's family are the Lightowler family of three brothers originally from Stockton on Tees United Kingdom who came over to Melbourne Australia sometime in the 19th or 20th century's. I know very little of the past and would love any information or leads to information if people are willing to share. Thank you again, a curious Lightowler. MessageHi
I am in possession of a piece of khaki cloth, torn from army uniform belonging to a George Lightowle?? (Unfortunately the cloth is torn and the last characters are illegible.) On it he has written a message to my great aunt who used to live in Bradford, Yorkshire, UK. (I used to live in Leeds, but now live in New Zealand.) George served with the Royal Fusiliers in East Africa in 1915. Any information regards George would be appreciated.
Kind regards
David
