MessageIn the late 40's and early 50's I attended Washington Elementary in Sonora from Kinder to 3rd grade. We then moved to Ray where I attended Lincoln school for 4th and 5th grades. After spending several years in Los Angeles, I retired and returned to AZ. How sad it is to realize that Sonora is no longer there. I remember St. Helen's where I made my first communion, but if anyone should have a map of the layout it would help my memories a lot more. Living in that little village were the best years of my life.

MessageI forgot that I meant to include what I could remember about the Doctors in Ray. We lived on on teapot terrace and lived in between Dr. Walsh and Dr. England, who had a daughter my age and same name. When they moved, Dr.Erhman moved in and remained very close friends of my parents until they all passed away. Dr. Stevens was also a doctor in Ray. I also saw a mention from a Reynosa. Last year working at a elementary school there was a biographical story about a little boy why did rodeo roping. His family had a mexican restaurant in Guadulupe, Arizona and tortilla factory. It sounded like they had been in that business in ariz for awhile so I thought it was possible to be a relatiive of hers. It is a small community so easy to check. I hope this helps with some questions. smilie smilie

MessageI came across this site by accident, helping my daughter with a research project. I used to live in Ray and Kearny and my husband in Sonora and Kearny. I just wanted to thank Tommy Meisel for his contribution and comment on my Dad, Bob Winkle. It is nice to come across memories of him especially now that he is no longer with us. My mom taught in Sonora in the early 1940's. Her name was Miss Smith and I would love to find any memories or pictures of the school in Sonora. My husbands family had a store "Joe Carlos Market". I have several pictures that as soon as I figure out how I will upload. Thanks.

MessageI am from the Reynoso Family and I am trying to locate existing family members. My grandfather's name was Ramon Reynoso and he had a brother named Ishmel Reynoso who owned a tortilla factory in Ray-Sonora Arizona during the the 1920s or 1930s when it was still a mining town. I was told that he and his family returned to Mexico and that is far as I can go. There is another brother named Alejandro Reynoso who I think moved to Phoenix. I would appreciate any help with any information from anyone who may have known them or know of them. My father died at a young age (39) and I have one remaining aunt and I would very much like to make contact with members of my father's family. My father was also named Ramon Reynoso and he was born in Ray Sonora in 1926 but I cannot locate his birth records.

MessageWith the upcoming RHS picnic, Saturday, March 19, 2011, it would be great if a local band from the former Sonora area learned the words and music to the song "Sonora." It would be a highlight for the students and families from the area. Don

MessageMy brother Mark and I were both born in Ray; me in 1954 and him in 1953. Dr. John Edmunds delivered us in the small hospital there. My dad, James Alvin Lee, was hired as a "training director" by Abe Morris who was the general manager for the Ray mines division of Kennecott Copper. My dad first worked on what turned out to be a very effective safety plan for the Ray mine, and later worked to address pay and housing inequalities between the Mexican and Anglo employees, My parents lived lived in a "wingfoot" (a small portable house of about 400 square feet)and later moved into a larger factory-built home.
I came upon this website and was glad to see that someone had put some information about Ray on a website!

MessageMy parents, Ramon and Agripina (known as Pina) lived in Sonora and I was born there in 1939. I remember the milk lady (I don't remember her name) but she took me to the Dairy farm when I was about three. She used to bring me a toy or candy everytime she came to deliver milk. I remember when I left Sonora to move to Superior, she gave me a set of little furniture that I kept for years. I moved to Superior and stayed with my Grandmother but my family stayed in Sonora where my sisters and my brother went to school. They moved to Superior after about 2 or 3 years. I remember Kearny and I remember the river, called Kelvin (or Calvin). My father worked at the mine until he got a heart attack and later worked driving the Munoz van from Sonora to Superior. I was given a book on Sonora but in moving was lost and I would like to find another one. There was also a poem written about Sonora that I would like to find.
