MessageJust a hello to all the Iowa Wendish. Martin Philip Halbasch Jr. was my 2nd Great Grandfather. One of his many daughters (Louisa Martha Halbasch) married a French farmer's son in Keokuk (Emil Peter Blondet).

MessageMy grandfather Ernst Benjamin Schneider was born in Tauer, Germany in 1862 and whose great uncle was Carl Teinert who had emigrated earlier to Serbin Texas. Ernst's father Andreas, my great-grandfather, decided the family would join other Wends on the Ben Nevis and after three months & 12 days of sailing they landed in Galveston in November 1869. My grandfather was seven years old at the time with a very good memory. He wrote extensively about this trip and the family's life after settling in Texas arriving first in Serbin traveling from Galveston. I was able to have this detailed history translated from German to English in 1986. It is included in the Schneider Family History book finished in 1991. Many Wendish families are mentioned in his writings.
