MessageI worked at Good Shepherd Villa Nursing Home in the front office in Mesa from 1998-2001. Mamie Minotto was one of our residents. I took a special liking to Mamie because of her unorthodox ways! We'd have "happy hour" each Friday afternoon and different talent would entertain. One Friday, a country & western singer performed and sang "El Paso" among other Marty Robbins' tunes. Mamie nudged me and said, "He's good but he ain't no Marty!" Mamie died in 2004 and I attended her memorial service. I shared some of the stories that made Mamie such a character. I also teach creative writing and worked with the activities director to have some of the residents write poetry. Mamie and I wrote a lovely poem about her love of trains. They don't make 'em like Mamie anymore, I'm afraid. Gosh, I miss her.

MessageHelen, thanks for preserving Marty's music and memory. I wrote his biography, "Twentieth Century Drifter: The Life of Marty Robbins," and it will be published in the spring of 2012. Perhaps we can get together at some point.

MessageI have been a Marty Robbins fan since I was seven years old. Forty-three years later I am yet to find any other artiste who can touch my soul the way he can. His voice is the single most beautiful thing I have ever heard. I used to think that I was a little strange to miss him so after so many years and then I found this website and a few other, with so many good people that feel the same way that I do. It has been really reassuring to find that I am not alone.

So thank you Helen for providing this forum where we can meet.

MessageI was a young Radio Announcer in Hobart Tasmania
when I interviewed Marty Robbins on tour and at 19 years of age, I loved his work and was in awe of his enormous talent. Sensing my inexperience, HE guided me through the best interview I ever had - it was the best hour I ever had on air in the forty plus years of my career.
I had interviewed countless so called 'big name celeb's' both national and international since, but none as gracious and talented -REALLY talented performers like this man.

MessageI was able to purchase Marty Robbins Legendary Performances DVD recently and really love seeing Marty singing those early songs with the terrific people who accompany him (playing instruments/singing). Marty's voice is just beautiful and as the DVD went through the 1950s until the 1970s, his voice was as mellow as the first song on that film. My favourite singer, I remember the day he passed away and I heard the news on the radio, I was standing near my lounge chair - something I will never forget (funny how some things are so clear in your mind).

MessageI had the pleasure of meeting Marty Robbins at The Earnest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville after the Opry several times. The greatest country music performer of all time. I have collected every song Marty ever recorded. Have put them on DVD and then to flash drive so they will never be lost. Country Music's greatest star.
