MessageI was extremely fortunate to have been given a 'Red Balloon' Experience by my daughter for Fathers Day 2011, so my wife and I travelled on Sunday 11th December 2011, and even though I had 41 years service with the Victorian Railways I never ever had the pleasure on riding on a locomotive and that was part of my experience on Sunday when I was allowed to ride on the footplate of K 190 Steam Train between Castlemaine and Muckleford. what an experience for someone with my years of working railways it was amazing and to be part of the crew watching them operate the loco was amazing, so to Jim, Jeremy and Ross thank you so very much.

Then I had the pleasure of meeting the Head Conductor for the day and it turned out to be Bill Swain who I had worked with in his Conductor days in the Railways and just to see him again and hear his passion for being a volunteer was sensational. Also David who was the Waiter / Steward for the day he was so gracious and helpful I cannot express my appreciation enough to them all.

Thank you VGR for the opportunity and I look forward to one day again visiting your wonderful organisation.

MessageTo all the volunteers on the VGR, we thank you immensely for your time and efforts on Saturday Sept. 3rd on the occasion of our parents 50th wedding anniversary.

From getting on the train in Castlemaine, the trip to Maldon (for tea at the Maldon Hotel)and return was enjoyed greatly by our group of 60.

The service in the first class carriages - Tambo & Lowanna was indeed top class. We were also well looked after by the train crew of Driver, fireman, guard & signalman.

Once again thank you to all for making it such a memorable event.

Cheers,
Chapman Family

MessageTo all the Folks at the VGR a huge thank you especially to Peter Stowell and of course Paul McDonald for doing the "hard part" of the day spent with you all during our driver experience day on the 1st July. It was just simply a brilliant day spent in terrific company. It certainly makes you very aware of the skills necessary to drive a locomotive and of course the engineering that goes on behind to make the whole thing work. We raise a glass to those old timers and feel very privileged to have shared that experience. We shall certainly cheerish the memories for a long time to come, and of course unashamedly bore the pants off our friends with the stories of the VGR. Long may your steam box smoke!! We shall spread the word this end for folks that intend to visit Australia that the VGR is a real gem. Once again our grateful thanks to you all. Paul & Liz

MessageThanks for making a small part of my honeymoon so special. We came up on Friday 28th Jan and was allowed to enter the shed to see the engine which you are working on at the moment. Also we were given brochures with time tables and was told that the trains were running on Saturday 29th at 10.30am so we had to come back up from Melbourne on the Saturday, which we did and had so much fun in first class on the viewing platform.

So thanks once again for making it an enjoyable day we will definately be back.

MessageIt would be helpful if you could update your site with photos every month. Some of your pictures go back years and you don't seem to add many new photos.

There is nothing about the carriage transfer to Seymour that I can see on your site.

It is disappointing to look at your site every few months and see little if no change.

Tourists from Australia and oversesa need to see that things are moving ahead at your railway for them to keep coming back.

Robert.

MessageHey guys,

I have been wanting to have a ride on your railway ever since I saw one of the steam locos crossing the bridge over the A300 in Castlemaine two years ago. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get around to it until this weekend. My family and I went to the Maldon Folk Festival so it was a no brainer for me to make the most of the opportunity. A big thanks to everyone who made today such a wonderful experience. I have been building today up in my mind for a while and I'm pleased to say that even after two years of anticipation the experience out did my every expectation. From the moment my wife, brother and I bought our tickets to when we departed Maldon after returning we felt extremely welcome and valued.

A special thanks to the Guard and Ticket Inspector. To the Guard for sharing knowledge of the railway on the 14:30 Castlemaine Train and stopping the train as we made a mad dash to catch the 15:45 Maldon Train. To the Ticket Inspector for unlocking the doors and letting us on. It was much appreciated.

I love steam trains and this was a great way to experience a great era of Australian History. From the bottom of my heart thank you all for a magnificent experience. Please keep it up, I will be recommending it to others. I look forward to my next visit, the steam train driver experience is quite tempting. I might have to save for a while though.

Cheers,

Brenton.

MessageHi guys....I recently "rode the footplate" on one of your fabulous Steam engines. Whilst the trip was absolutely fantastic, it was made even more than that by the Crew, Don, Adrian ( who literally explained everything ) and unfortunately I cannot remember the other fellas name. Everyone was so friendly including the guy on the Maldon Platform selling coffee. These folk make your organization and I'm sure there are others behind the scenes who are just as dedicated. Keep up the good work and I'll be there next time I visit Castlemaine.

Regards and thanks

Grahame
