MessageOf course I will be there. However my sister Britta is getting married that Saturday so I won't be able to make it to all of the festivities.

If I had to choose one or two of my favorite Al's moments they would be....

1. The time Jon Conlon and I went on a goat run and my job was to "man handle the goats" while riding in the back of the truck in my dirndel.

2. The time when my mother came in the back of the kitchen to chew out Gary Teuber for dripping gasoline all over our house. It was quite a spectical if I must say so myself.

Those were some good times!!!!

MessageI'll go if I don't have to wear the dirndel, but I might be able to dig up an old apron & some clogs. I loved Ingert's notes! The brown rags & the blue rags for the tables & chairs. And God help us if we forgot to wear our bow!

MessageI worked at Als from 1970 through 1882. I washed dishes, was a pred cook, line cook, trucker, but mostly, the social director. It was my job to make certain everyone was having a good time during off hours.
During my tenure at Als, I received many awards, but the one I remember most fondly, is the
**BEST AND FASTEST BATTER BREAKER RIBBON**
I could close the door to a new load, catch a Danny Peterson plate in flight, run to the cooler and grab a new batter, unload the last load out, wash two batter buckets, mix and poor the batter, load and spray a new load of dishes, deliver a load of dishes to the salad bar, and slide the clean out and the dirty in all in under 90 seconds. Sometimes I passed myself coming out of the cooler.
One of the best stories, was about the delivery of the logs for the newly remodeled restaurant. The logs had been delayed for several weeks, because of a long shoreman strike and several other happenings. Early on the morning of the day that we were to receive the shipment, Steve Anderson (hamster) took a phone call from a man saying that they would be delayed for at least two weeks. When Al came in, Steve told him, and Al went off. He called everyone except the president ( he might have even called the president) and wanted to know why. No one could help him, and then Steve said the man sounded a little like Winky. Emeryone stopped!!! Winky had pimped us all and enjoyed his success for the next several weeks.
Thanks Al/Ingert

MessageI worked at Als from 1971 to ?
I was there when the logs came from Sweden.

My Best memory was when I was pregnant with my
daughter, Crystal (who is now 36). There was a
pool for when she would be born.( Sometime in November.) Eddie Schieder guessed November 11
which was his daughter Suzies birthday. Well
Eddie was right and being so nice he gave the
money to Crystal for her savings account.
Lots of other memories and for the most part
alot of fun times.

MessageMy best summers were spent renting a room at Ernest and Gladys Isaacson's home and working for Al and Ingert. I originally worked in the salad bar with Kim and Joyce Charney and sweet Helen Burress, and Al dragged me out of my safety zone and put me on the floor as a waitress. The tips were FABULOUS and I never worked harder in my life! Like so many of us, I credit my work ethic to my days as a Swedish waitress and Al expecting our best all of the time. Who remembers Max Fletcher and his wonderful humor, not to mention great tips for a cup of coffee. What about Babe and Buckwheat - a sweet elderly couple who came summer after summer - he lovingly called his wife Babe and he always ordered a stack of buckwheat cakes. How about those poor new dishwashers who had to go to Johnny's for a bucket of steam. Jumpin Joe Hendrickson wandering thru the kitchen often - try to load your tray while he was pinching you! The wonderful Swedish girls, like Lena and Viveca who cooked Janssen's Temptation for us one night, served with beer and Aquvit. Another Swedish girl (she had quite a large chest) would come out of the kitchen with her womanhood sitting nicely on the tray..what was she serving. We loved working for Daubo because he was sweet and funny, but he had to be wearing Swedish meatball grease as his cologne. Al was instrumental in encouraging me to do my student teaching in England-thanks, Al. Al and Ingert (and family) will always be dear to my heart! Love you, Dee :)

MessageI never flipped a pancake or washed a dish, but in 1973 helped unload the logs. Sounds like a great time.

MessageWhen I first started at Als I was 20 and very shy. I was carrying a whole container of the blue glasses into the dining room and Al came through the kitchen door and the door smashed my finger so I dropped the entire rack. All the glasses broke and I started to cry as he yelled swore and yelled at me about swinging AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN DOOR! I will never forget it. He toughened me and I appreciate it :)

MessageWhen Richard Burress and I started the ambulance service in Sister Bay in 1975, Al asked us to clean the restrooms and vacuum the dining room, nightly. We figured that we would each do the task on our "on duty" night alone...since we were just waiting for calls, and pair up on the nights we were on-duty together. The PROBLEM was, that, in those days, the dining room could have customers until way past 10pm. Then we would have a 2-3 hour ambulance call and another after that, sometimes a third call...and arrive to start cleaning about 4:30 to 5am...completely exhausted. Of course, the restrooms and dining would get a fairly swift "once over" before heading to bed....and THEN, THE PHONE CALL from Al!!!! (first alot of swearing) "You had all night to clean and you ought to see it...it looks awful!!" and, before you could say anything...click, and he was gone.... This arrangement lasted about 5 years, I think...ask Richard.
