MessageMy heart is breaking for your family, Ken. I lost my Mom to dementia 4 years ago. It was a rough road, as you are discovering. But, if we think it's hard for us to watch the deterioration, just imagine how hard it is for Kathy. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. Love to Kathy, a woman who has touched so many lives through her love of quilting. May God Bless you & her on this journey.

MessageHi, So sorry to hear about your mother. I enjoyed her so much and the class she taught for the San Fernando Quilt Guild was excellent. She really taught me how to machuine quilt. I have her books and the things she taught me I'll use and think of her. Betsy Farwell

MessageI took my first free motion quilting class from Kathy. I loved her style and energy. She has been such a talent and great teacher over the years. We will miss her spirit and energy but can still love her nonetheless.

MessageKen and Kristine and family.

I started quilting in 2001 and took my first classes at Thimble Creek from Laura Nownes and Kathy Sandbach. In fact over the years I took Beginning Quilting 3 times from Kathy! Kathy was an absolute delight to take a class from. Her teaching, her sense of humor, and her patience with me were marvelous! In my first class I took I was having problems and Kathy said - "Just use the needle and think of it as a pencil and draw with it." I told Kathy "But I can't draw with a pencil on paper."

My first quilt was the Alphabet Sampler by Laura Nownes and Diana McClun and Kathy had quilted the original one. Since this quilt was my first one and it was very special to me I wanted Kathy to quilt mine which she did and of course did an outstanding job.

She will always be in my memories.

MessageSo sorry to hear about Kathy's illness. What a tough time for your family. She was my first machine quilting teacher and I enjoyed her sense of fun, while admiring her work. She let me know I could accomplish far more than I thought possible.

Her legacy is widespread.
