MessageTo weing10,

I am happy that you are interested in music therapy (MT). For recommended schools, I suggest you to take some factors as considerations, such as states, weathers, relates in USA, the size of schools, tuition, and different studies of MT in schools. Some professors are good at MT with special children, and some professors are concentrated on music with neurology. It all depends on what you want to learn.

I can share my experience. I choose Georgia College & State University (GCSU), because they offer me assistantship. It decreases a lot of financial stress for me. In addition, I like warm weather. I don't have to worry about driving on the snowy days.

There is a certification that all music therapist should have. It is national. All music therapists take it after they finish their interns.

The answer for the third question is YES. Yes, you can study music therapy now. If you go to USA and study it, you will be a transfered student. Schools in USA do not require international students to have their undergraduate degrees first.

I hope you get what you want. If you have more questions, welcome to write down on the guestbook or email me.

MessageTo Yiwen,

If you want to know what music therapy is, there are several ways you can do: suffering internets, books or journals.

a) You may go to AMTA website to see some definitions about music therapy. They also introduce what kinds of populations music therapy does, and how they do it.

b) I have no idea about if there are some books written about music therapy. If you can get books from Taiwan or USA, that will also help you get to know music therapy. Ex: An introduction to Music Therapy, by Dacis, W.B., Gfeller, K.E., and Thaut, M. H..

c) Reading articles is one of good ways. There are many articles in Journal of Music Therapy, and Music Therapy Perspectives. You may find some interesting articles.

Good Luck smilie

MessageTo Nina,

I am not sure about how ESL works with universities with music therapy. When you decide your schools, you may check it first. Thus, you can plan to do other language tests if they ask for.

Since you already have a bachelor in music, it will make you much easier to apply. You will also spend less time in finishing your master degree. So far, what I wrote on my blog are about applying to the graduate schools. Every schools has different requirements on equivalent graduate students. You can check each school on my blog.

As I known, every music therapy school requires international students to have TOEFL score. Some schools may allow people to study the first semester. International students get the required score during the first semester. Like what I said, each school is different. I suggest you to have a school list first and make a plan.

Good luck smilie
