Who are you?interested in volunteering
Where you from?Hanford, Ca. 93230
Are you a Veteran?Richard (yes)
MessageRichard & I are interested in volunteering with the "Honor Flight"program. He is a viet nam vet and both our fathers were WWII veterans. Do you have a chapter in the central valley area (we live outside of Fresno) where we could attend meetings and help out in some way? We have had the privledge of visiting both the viet nam and WWII memorials in D.C. but our dads never had that opportunity. In May, Richard rode a motorcycle in "The Ride To The Wall". He only got to go half way but said every stop they made they were greeted like heros.Totally different then when he returned from Viet Nam in Dec. 1969. Next year he will ride all the way to D.C. and I plan to meet him at some point and ride into D.C. with him. Please give us as much information about the program as possible.

Sincerely,

Linda Knapp

Who are you?Daughter of a WWII Veteran
Where you from?Antelope Valley California
Are you a Veteran?no
MessageMy father, Edward Tapia now 84, served in the South Pacific campaigns Peleiu and Battle of Leyte Bay in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. My Dad never spoke of his experiences in battle to any of us including my Mom, until recently when his mind will go back to that time and he will remember the friends he made and the one that didn't make it back and the nightmare of battle and the aftermath. I would love to give him the gift of visiting the WWII memorial but we are not able to afford it. I read about this wonderful organization and it's founder, what a generous gift this man is giving to our WWII Veterans, he is doing God's work. I hope this organization will continue to prosper. Thank You.

Who are you?oldest son of WWII vet
Where you from?San Jose,Ca----originally from Kansas
Are you a Veteran?USN / Vietnam Vet / Pearl Harbor, Hi
MessageThis is an excellent program. I accompanied my father as a guardian on a flight out of Kansas City in Oct 08. This was sponsored by the Central Prarie hub, located in Great Bend,Kansas. This was their third trip already and it was quick but the experience was awesome. We had to ride a chartered bus for three hours to get to and from KC so that allowed more time for meeting and greeting and war stories. I learned a lot about the war that I did not know and about my dad also. Wow, I have such a new appreciation for what these men went through. The memorial is something to see. The highlight for my dad was shaking hands with Bob Dole, who is from our neck of the woods--western Kansas. My father was fully mobile on his own so that allowed me to help out and support other guys and the tour leaders. The oldest guy on our trip was 92. As a plus for me,I was able to pay my respects to the Vietnam Wall.
This was truly a rewarding experience for me and I have some great pictures and memories to cherish.
