MessageIt was remiss of me not to mention in my previous note a welcome to Tom by the Sea! It is nice to see other entries coming from Australia.

I was interested to read whilst flipping through past entries that Sandy you remarked that you could not get a submission onto Susan's website which is based differently to this one as it is something more of a personal nature between the writer and Jim. She paid me the honour asking me to be the first to post an entry and stressed at the time that one did not have to have been a strong Indy Fan just a loyal fan of Jims. Still you chose instead to post your entry on this site and this also makes interesting reading. I did initially have difficulty being so far away in successfully loading up her website butfound that when I put it into my favourites I had no further trouble. Gradually more and more people are sending submissions to this new website and I am sure that any one else wishing to participate would be more than welcome.Betty

MessageJim is not the son of someone from New York. He was born and raised in Sylacauga, AL. His parents were Fred and Mavis Nabors, and Jim had two older sisters, one of whom is still living nearby him in Hawaii.

MessageIt always makes me feel so pleased to read notes sent from others in Australia, that lovely island lovingly known as down under, as well as words sent my me.

Jim would be thrilled Jan, because he has many fond memories of his visits to our shoresa. Indeed that is where I first met him in 1979!. Gone are the days when humour is clean, non violent and without any obscenities that we have to endure today.
I think that God broke the mould of programmes such as
Andy Griffith with Ron Howard as a small boy and then of course our much loved Gomer.
The character of Gomer was everything to everybody, kind, considerate believing in fair play and always respect for others. This though is true of Jim himself and a nicer gentleman one could always enjoy meeting.

Bless you Jim for the joy, happiness and appreciation of your wonderful voice and your ability to be still able to share it with us all. Your acting was always entertaining but I think I enjoy Stoker Ace the best!

I look forward now to leaving new south wales in a few weeks to enjoy myself in what I classify as Paradise on Earth. Will of course be so pleased to be able to enjoy the Christmas concerts once again and wish you all the very best.Emma, Karen and Jimmy Boerge all of whom I have been lucky enough to meet. especially to Burton the wonderful artistic director. Age though is slowing me dowsn and this might be my swan song, but God will dictate this to me. Blessings and prayers are with you Betty

MessageHi Jim. I am a great fan of yours and love to watch the re-runs of Gomer Pyle USMC. You are a legand and a treasure to watch. I love that era of television. Would it be at all possible to have arranged a personally autograph photo of you for my TV room here in Australia. It would be an honour for me to display it for my family and friends to see. If you were so kind to do it for me, I can pay for the photo and postage. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you and good luck.

Regards,

Paul

MessageMr. Nabors you have the most wonderful voice that I have ever heard. I couldn't believe it when you sang on the Andy Griffith Show. Are you ever going to come to Indiana around the Evansville area? I would love to hear you sing.
And I loved you in Gomer Pyle USMC. I just loved that show. And of course the Andy Griffith show when you were on there. You are so talented.

MessageTO: SUSAN B.

i REALLY LIKE YOUR WEBPAGE. I TRIED TO WRITE MY STORY BUT IT WOULD NOT GO THROUGH. I THINK SOMETHING ABOUT A POP UP BLOCK. SO I AM WRITING MY STORY TO JIM HERE.

THIS IS MY JIM NABORS STORY:

AFTER MY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION FROM RADFORD HIGH, I BOARDED THE PLANE IN HONOLULU WITH TEARS IN MY EYES HEADED TO MY COLLEGE DESTINATION, LSU.
I HAD TO PACK ONLY MY MOST IMPORTANT ITEMS. MY MOST IMPORTANT ITEM WAS MY MUSIC. I CARRIED WITH ME THE BRITISH INVASION, THE BEATLES, HERMANS HERMITS,AND JERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS. HELEN REDDY WAS MY FAVORITE. I ALSO PACKED GARY LEWIS AND THE PLAYBOYS AND THE MAMA AND THE PAPAS. THE FIRST PERSON I MET WAS MY SENIOR SORORITY SISTER AND HELPED ME UNPACK. SHE TOOK A LOOK AT MY MUSIC AND SAID SANDY YOU ARE REALLY MISSING OUT YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE SOME JIM NABORS MUSIC. WHO IS THAT? SHE SHOWED ME HIS PICTURE AND I SAID "OH GOMER" DON'T KNOW. AND SHE BECAN PLAYING SOME OF HIS ALBUMS. I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS VOICE. I PUSHED ALL THAT TEEN YEARS OVER AND BEGAN COLLECTING HIS MUSIC. I HEARD HIM SING ON MAYBERRY BUT I STARTED GROWING UP WHEN I REACHED LSU. I HAVE FOLLOWED JIMS CAREER AND HAVE ATTENDED TWO OF HIS CONCERTS: ONE AT HARRAHS IN TAHOE AFTER MY GRADUATION AND IN 1999 IN BRANSON MISSOURI AFTER HIS LIVER TRANSPLANT. I ADMIRE HIM SO MUCH. NOT ONLY BECAUSE HE GOMER AND A GREAT ENTERTAINER BUT BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE HELPS PEOPLE. aFTER DOING THE QUILT PROJECT I REALIZE THERE IS MORE LOVE IN THIS WORLD.

MessageIn the early 1960's, I worked for Continental Oil at Rockefeller Plaza, NYC for a man named Hal Nabors. I once met his lovely wife. It was always my understanding that Jim Nabors was his son. Continental was based in Texas, but I see that you were born in Alabama. May I know whether you are the son of Hal Nabors? Thank you for wonderful laughs over the years. - jane

MessageLani .. Thank you so much for your kind remarks about the website I did about Jim. It is not meant to be in competition with this one (which is wonderful, and to which I am so pleased to be even a small part). It's a very personal thank you from me to Jim for his being such a tremendous person, who was very, very kind to me a long time ago. And, as well, there are so many millions of people who share a special time with Jim here in Indianapolis during our Indy 500 each May. It's a major highlight of the year for many of us. I hope that you'll put in a word on the site, Lani. Those stories can be about anyone's special comments about Jim. They don't only have to be about him here at Indy!
Thanks to Jim, so many of us not only share the joy of his wonderful talents, but have gotten to know each other, too.
Here's to everyone having a wonderful week ahead!! Susan

MessageI think Jim Nabors ranks with the best of them! I love his voice and I have every disc he ever made. What a wonderful human being; honest, down-to-earth; warm and giving. Jim, please keep on singing and please come back to the mainland so we can continue to enjoy your live performances - particularly on the East Coast. You are a treasure!!
