Message | My name is Nancy and my heart goes out to you. I would like to share my story with you regarding my signaficant other who had a massive stroke. One evening I called Jerry, my signaficant other, during a snowstorm to say goodnight. He picked up the phone and there was no answer. I knew he was there because I could hear noises like he was trying to speak, but could not. I told him that I knew he was having a problem and not to hang up because I was going to send my son next door to call his neighbor to come and see what was wrong. When they got into his house, he was sitting in his recliner clinging to the phone, but could not speak. They called an ambulance and had him sent to the emergency room, and I met him there. When I went to see him the next day he was still in a semicomatose state, which lasted about a week. He seemed to know I was there after a couple of days because he would squeeze my hand. He could not swallow and his children decided to put him on a feeding tube. Fortunately, he only needed this for a few weeks. I figured the best way to help him to recover from this was to be by his side as much as I could. I would go every evening after work and 2-3 times on Saturday and Sunday. They started lim |
