MessageHi Doug,

It's your rabbi and I know that you are heading into the final phases of a grueling journey. You have reaped some of the rewards already and more await you, both within and beyond the moment.

Here's how I see it: God created us with the hope - given free will - that we would justify our existence. We do so in the manner that we respond to certain situations and opportunities. Sometimes those opportunities are evident to us, and other times we may achieve clarity only after the moment has passed...sometimes long after, like the miles that have disppeared under your wheels.

You are in the midst of such defining moments. You do so for yourself - the challenge and the achievement - as well as for others who will benefit in innumerable ways from what you are doing: how inspiration plus perseverance significantly increases the odds of achieving one's dreams and goals, and surely what you are doing on behalf of CCI.

Whatever deep wells you have tapped to arrive at this stage of your journey, you will now mine deeper to get over the walls and beyond the mind-numbing fatigue. You can do this!

You are so incredibly close to accomplishing what you set out to do, and a lot of folks across the country are taking throat lozenges because they've shouted themselves hoarse {a malady that members of my congregation wish upon me!}, so we're all on this ride together: "Just say 'go'!"

In thought and prayer,

Ellio

MessageHey Doug,

We hope to catch you today in the middle of Ohio. We want you to know that many CCI friends who live too far away to come to see you are emailing us with well wishes for a safe successful finish. You are one strong dude with a fantastic support team. You can do this for Carol, for yourself and for CCI.

We are with you in spirit the entire time.

Messagesmilie Doug,

I have been so pleased with your progress, and we can,t wait to greet you in Annapolis. After you and Carol get home and have had a chance to reflect on what both of you have accomplshed, I'm sure you'll realize the profound effect that you had on a great many people that you both know and the ones you don't. There are many people that have been asking, "how is your friend doing in his race". And of course I reply with pride that "you are doing great". The big winners in this venture has been the awareness brought to the wonderful work being done for the people who train the dogs for CCI and the eventual placing of those dogs to people that really need them. I'm glad that I was able to be a part of this adventure. Way to go and keep pedaling. smilie

Dude, you have like 2 or 3 runs to the airport for breakfast...that's all. you do these miles in your sleep.

I am sitting at home following you to every single timestation and I am so incredibly proud of you.

So I stayed on my healthy eating ALL WEEK and I've been 2 weeks with a trainer and working on getting in shape.

There's an almost-full moon out the window and I know its lighting the way for you. We'll be waiting for you in Annapolis with muffins and huge cheers. You are making history Pop and I am really lucky to be a part of this.

When I was a teenager I thought you and mom were the most un-cool people ever. BOY has this changed my mind. Geez, way to go and be all awesome and shizz Dad.

I bought you a sparkly new checkerboard and a shiney pink bike with a bell and handlebar streamers. Mom says you have to be back from the park by lunch and you can only play a max of 3 games of checkers and then ride home. smilie

No seriously, you ROCK!

All hail, the New York Giants...
"NEW YORK GIANTS!!" smilie

MessageHi Doug,

Well, our firstborn, Jonathan, graduated from high school this past Wednesday and will be heading to American University in mid-August. Our middle son, David, will be joining me on college tours during the summer as he prepares to enter his senior year of high school. We'll be heading to North Carolina in a few weeks for a week on the road: picking up minor league baseball games along the way and then arriving on different campuses for tours, and meetings with baseball coaches.

By the time we return home, I'll have covered less miles in my car than you are gobbling up on your bike!

I wonder at what point you'll truly appreciate the immensity of what you are accomplishing and the way that you have brought together a large group of people, largely unknown to each other, who through cyberspace are connecting through you.

This story has so many levels, it amazes me.

As do you.

Ride happy, stay strong, think 'home.'

All the continued best,

Elliot

MessageI have a CCI Service Dog, Sander. If I can get my support staff to get me up early enough, he and I will greet you on New London Road just before you cross the Great Miami River. My significant other, Rich Cornelius, just raised his first CCI puppy, Vida II, hopefully they will be there, too. (Vida is now a release dog)

GO DOUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
