MessageRob,
In 1997, I attended my 2nd Jim Evans Desert Classic. You were one of the Instructors. I've followed your career since then. I've been encouraged and inspired by you, Jim Wolf, Ted Barrett, Mike DeMuro and many others. I have worked High School baseball since the 1996, season. I'm fortunate to be an Instructor & Evaluator for our San Fernando Valley Unit of the California Baseball Umpire Association, all due to the Desert Classic. Which I attended in succession 1996 thourgh 2001. The instructors said I took 6 years to finish a 5 week course.
I was born on the same day as Jim Evans, and we have become friends. He knew my father, who was engineer/producer for the announcers of the A.L. Angels Baseball team from 1961 to 1987. That's how he met Jim Evans. In 1972 when he came up to the Majors. You are close to making it, keep working.
Keep up the great site, for us the unsung of the fraturnity.

MessageThanks, Rob, for trying to "open up" our world to others. Umpiring a ball game is much more than putting on a blue or black shirt and walking onto a ballfield. For those of us who consider it a professional rather than an advocation, thanks-- and many years of "happy baseballing"
