MessageI was reading a book about Douglas, "The Reaper's Line" and I was curious what became of Borane so I did a Google search on him and I ran across your blog. I am really enjoying your stories as I am from Pirtleville. I happen to know lots of your characters as I grew up with them but I am afraid I do not know you even though your name sounds very familiar. I am from the class of 1963 and during the time of some of your stories I was going to school at Sarah Marley school back in 1955. This is when I met many of your characters as from then onward we were all classmates.

I also wrote a book about growing up in Pirtleville and it is on the web. The name of the book is "Meet Me At The Allstar Club". If you are interested, do a Google search on the title and it will come up.

Again, I am enjoying your stories as they bring back lots of memories about Douglas...

MessageHi, Paul,
Have enjoyed reading all your columns...brought back many wonderful memories! My sister, Nadia, was friends with your sister, Ruthie. We lived at 1221 11 street, across the street from you. I now live in Marin County, California in a town called San Rafael (about 11 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge). I'm sorry I missed that reunion, but am looking forward to my 50th reunion next year!!
Keep writing.

Hilda

MessageHi Paul: I have enjoyed reading your great memories, which was sent to me by Oscar Ferrell, my cousin. I knew your Dad when he was working at the port of entry, very friendly man, as I practically lived in AP; I crossed that border many times! I do remember your sister Ruth, DHS band. Unfortunately I missed the reunion. Stay happy and continue the good work.

MessageHi Paul,
Irene Gomez Ferrell just sent me your Reunion message.. it was great! I hate that I missed this one as I've heard lots of great things about it.

Made me feel like I was there. When I go my visits are mainly to the cemetary to visit my mom and Beth!

But I love the drive from Texas... and it is beautiful coming over the mountains on 80.

Later,
Margaret

MessagePaul,

Oscar Ferrell sent me your great description of your class reunion and also your blog address.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Especially, your mentions of names of your fellow DHS students brought back good memories to me. I
taught history, economics and one year (the year Paul Huber, who
taught the print shop related courses moved up to replace Johnson as principal), I taught journalism and had a senior English class.
I spent seven years in Douglas and will never forget it. Great students.

As for me, I'm 82 and living in Sun City - Carolina Lakes. My house is directly across the road from the spot where I was born
in Indian Land, SC. After Douglas I taught one year in AJo, AZ and then to a junior college in Orlando, Fl. After two years there I was hired by my alma mata, Winthrop College. Retired from there in 1989.

My best,
Louise Pettus

MessageHi Paul,

I'm from Douglas too. My sister is Enriqueta(Edna Ramirez)Pete Enriquez, Billy Enriquez are my brothers. Pete shared your website with Edna and I just got it from her just about half hour ago so needless to say I haven't read it all.

Our dad Tony Enriquez used to buy honey from your dad. I might still have a bottle with the label on it. I'm looking forward to reading more...I've got to go cook dinner. (smilie

I do remember your sister Ruth.

Thanks,
Connie
