| Message | Hi Darren,
I have a vision. As a big fan of Frank Herbert's classic Sci-Fi epic Dune, I am in eager anticipation and apprehensive of a contemporary film interpretation of this great story.
Until recently, Paramount had Peter Berg as the attached director for this job. Meaning no disrespect to Mr Berg, but I have not seen evidence to suggest he could do it justice, both in his previous films and his comments on the project.
He has now pulled out/been removed from the project and the studio is looking for a new director. PLEASE talk to your agent about this and at least consider the project. I believe that you are by far the best contemporary director for the job. Having seen your work, in particular The Fountain, I feel you have the right mix of skills, vision and subtleties to really pull it off.
I read the Dune books whilst listening to the Boards of Canada. I feel that there is a sinister, desert, haunting, technological and beautiful atmosphere and edge to this story. I fear that if the film is remade in the wrong way the feeling of this magnificent world will be lost, and with it, an enjoyable and valid remake.
Perhaps this is just my interpretation, but having discussed it with many Dune fans, I can tell you that there is a whole cult following who would love to see you at the reigns. PLEASE SAVE DUNE!? |
