MessageI do have one question for all readers. Most of the nasty teachers were all men. Ladies were there any nasty lady teachers? Schools from Ambroseden, Oxfordshire, Alexander junior School , Singapore, Gatow School , Berlin and Bicester secondary, Oxfordshire all had good women teachers. I never hear about nasty ones. In PRS there was a Ms Pillar who smashed students across the face but I found most of the ladies were positive and helpful. Any thoughts? Nicholas.

MessageMy abiding memories are as follows;
Cross country runs around the perimeter fence in freezing weather.
Playing football on the shale pithes at Lawson in hailstones.
Church on Sundays and having ones finger nails and shoes inspected by the housemaster.
Snogging behind the bike sheds and at the back of the church.
Meals in the dining hall with the two people at the end of the table having to clear up.
Receiving the slipper sole after misbehaving after lights out.
I cannot remember many names as the old memory is going due to being concussed so many times playing rugby in later life!

MessageJust wanted to say how much I enjoyed my brief time at PRS. I was so disappointed when my father was posted back to Edinburgh. Coincidentally I lived next door to Nicholas and Edwina Larner at 24 Redford Gardens in Edinburgh before we went to Malta then Germany. I don't suppose they remember me! I certainly remember Babs Mcgee and the other senior girls in Collingwood house who were never anything but kindly and responsible towards younger pupils like me. It was this friendship amongst the pupils which made it such a wonderful school. I seemed to be permanently in detention because someone nicked my PE kit but I just laugh when I think about it. My friends always saved something from tea for me so I never went without. In all walks of life you come across good and bad people, it's just unfortunate that teachers have such an indelible effect on the lives of their young charges. At the end of one lesson in geography about iron ore I plucked up courage and told the teacher my big brother was on an iron ore carrier working out of Narvik. Expecting some kind of positive response I was totally crushed at his response of "Big deal for your brother!" It was a long time before I volunteered to speak again. Thankfully our eyes are in the front of our heads so we can look forward! I attended 9 schools and all contributed in various ways to give me a superb education for which I am eternally grateful and I went on to study geography as part of my teaching degree!

MessageI did have a good friend at PRS a one Philip Payne. also Rae Bullough was a laugh. his brother Guy though could be quite nasty when he felt like it. These are the teachers that were excellent and made learning a joy.
Mr Arygle, history. He does not know how much he shaped my later reading habits of history even though he had a sign in his class saying history was bunk (Ogden Nash)
Captain Clay. Seconded from the army to teach biology. He taught without teaching.
Ms Duckworth. Her maths class were a joy
Mr Dyer. wonderful drama teacher. also his review of the movie Hombre ( Paul Newman) still sticks with me.
Mr Irwin He made it a pleasure to go to class.
Mr White , chalky White taught a wonderful class.
It is a shame I cant tell these teachers how much I got from them.
I forgot Mr Felton. In the classroom he was fair and open. So there were some good and some good learning. If all the teachers had given like they did but I guess now they have

Is TWA in touch with any of the German cooking staff. I never got to say thank you for all the food and great service. Thats it , Nicholas.

MessageWhile I sympathise that you had a hard time at PRS Nicholas, I also find it somewhat offensive to see you criticise PRS so totally. Surely you had a friend or two who made it all bearable? Do you think that you, perhaps had a part to play in your sad/bad time there? Could a smidgeon of it have been your own fault? In any event you are a big boy now and maybe is time for you to move on to more pleasant memories and one way of achieving that may be to avoid PRS related sites at all costs. PRS was for me the icing on the cake and the best five years schooling and freindships imaginable!

MessageI started at PRS in 1957 aged 11 and as a youngster found it was very hard for the first few months what with my bits being blackened and having to fag for monitors. After the initial few months i had the most fantastic time and enjoyed it so much - even got the slipper from old Gaffer a few times and Matron was a great laugh. I remember having a crush on my english teacher cant remember her name. smilie
