MessageJust wondering if this reaches anyone who was at PRS during the years 1953-1957? I am in regular contact with Madeleine and Pete Thomas (nee Hallett), my room-mate and with Jenny Pearson (nee Boyer). They are in contact with Tony Colvin, Terry Fraser and Chris Lisle. It would be good to hear from them - one day - if they pick up this message. Email always a good way to contact moi! Caio and very Happy Christmas - dare I chance a Frohliche Weinachten without the umlaut???? smilie

MessageHello Alan. I was on the Bonteheim-Howe Boys-about the same time as you were and also in the CCF. Remember the low buildings next to the parade area which were used by the cadets ? I have often wondered what they were used for originally by the German Navy. Pretty cold in the winter that I also remember, and another thing which sticks in my mind is that on one of the wall were some black and white aircraft identification silhouettes. Also remember "Thunderflashes" used to simulate explosions for training purposes, they were explosives of course and being boys one of the most exciting aspects of training exercises--we weren't allowed to use them as I recall. I went on a cadet Arduous Training exercise in the Harz Mts. for two weeks one Easter Holidays. Very cold and lugged a Bren Gun about for miles. I remember the water froze in our enamel water bottles in our tents overnight, and one night some eerie chanting was heard in the distance. Turned out to be some monks in a monastery hidden from view by pine woods. Also remember going to the elaborate entrance of what were supposed to have been disused mines running into the mountain side.I've since wondered if they were actually part of the slave labour factories established to produce weaponry. At end of exercise we were taken to a Spa town for a hot bath, and then to a cinema were we saw " Journey to the centre of the Earth" dubbed in German and entitled " Fahrt zum mittel Erde" I think, causing some schoolboy merriment-still.
