| Message | Hi, regarding the Staffordshire/ Midlands England Orgill's. My great great grandfather was born around 1873 in Staffordshire, England and was an Orgill. His parents actually migrated from Dublin, Ireland. His mother was Bridgett born 1939 and father John (approx) 1836. I am unsure why they picked staffs, but around the time my great grandad was born there appears to be quite a few Orgills in the area - you know how us cathloics breed like rabits!
I dont know enough about History but wouldn't this make those Orgill's great famine emigrants, the name is so rare I guarantee I am related to those Orgills in Staffs/ Derby & Notts.
My great granddad then came to America. It is interesting to me. From web research I have found the name to be of Scottish or French origin, which are two completely different cultures! But then my family was originally from Ireland. Although my family are bonefide Irish-American's to the core, i'd say its most like Argyle went to Ireland as part of Ulster settlement and emigration, then some went to England/ America etc during mass Irish emigration. I come to this conclusion because there is no real Irish from of Orgill. There are a few Argel, Cargill & Argyle's but i cant find any there at the moment called Orgill which suggests they came from Scotland originally.
The Orgill mystery continues!
P.S Im glad the name has such mysterous origins it makes it more interesting |
