MessageHi ,

Just popped in from a link from Bernie.

You've got some great cars there and quite a selection to.

If I ever get over there I'll have to time it with a N & N meeting!

Happy motoring! Paul. smilie

MessageHi Folks,

I would best describe myself as a "frustrated" British car fan. Whilst I have never actually owned one, I learned to drive in a prototype 1963 Morris 1100 (with a "Fireflash" engine - in Nurburg White duco).

I was brought up surrounded by British cars and yes I was born in the UK. My maternal grandfather (who lived in the British West Indies) owned a late 5o's Ford Popular and later had a Ford Anglia Super on a UK visit, which he later sold to my Uncle.

My father had two company Ford Anglia Standards (in the early 60's). After coming to Australia, my father owned a 1972 Austin Kimberley Mark 2, my aforementioned grandfather owned a 1965 Mini Deluxe and later a 1967 Morris 1100S (semi-auto).

My uncle (now in Melbourne) was a design engineer with BMC/ Leyand from the 1950's to 1975 (when Zetland closed down). He owned an original Morris Mini Minor and a Mini Traveller with a 1275 Cooper S motor. It was his pride and joy until his son wrote it off. It is still in his garage (a wreck awaiting restoration). My uncle also designed the V8 motor for the P76 (and as he is only to happy to point out, had NOTHING to do with the body design!). He still comes to Sydney once a year for the annual Leyland reunion.

If I was to succeed in purchasing a British car of some sort, would I be welcome to join your club? If so, what would be the cost? I'm not particularly mechanical (but that's more to lack of opportunity rather than lack of ability!). I am keen to learn!
