MessageHi Rebecca,
I'm glad to meet someone living in Nova Scotia,
since I'm going to have jaw surgery in there smilie
My OS is Dr.David Precious, and I don't think yours is him too, right? I wonder why.. as I've heard he is the best OS in maritimes.
Anyway, you look awesome! smilie

MessageOh, one more thing... the pain after the surgery. No amount of meds can take the pain away. I was practically ODing on codine and my face STILL felt like it was being ripped off!!!!! the pain meds are so strong that you literally can feel your kidney and liver working overtime!! Honestly, the only way I survived my surgery was GOD and my mother. My mother had to move in with me for two weeks to make sure I was drinking plenty of liquids, taking my meds correctly, sleeping right. SHE BASICALLY DID EVERYTHING FOR ME!!! And GOD, he gave me strength to wake up and face another day of looking like a mongoloid and facing people out in the world when I had to go for my follow-ups at the docs. He helped me deal with the pain when I realized that the meds were f--king up my body and I didn't want to become one of those people you hear about getting hooked on pain meds, so I got off of them and stuck with Advil. I hope whoever has this surgery has someone by their side to help them through it. IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN TOO!!!!! BE STRONG.

MessageHi! I had upper and lower jaw surgery on 12.12.07 and I am happy to say that I am all healed up, my braces are off, my teeth are beauty and I have lost 25 pounds! I do have a few complaint about the surgery though. They are.... I have not regained sensation in my chin and left part of my lower lip, I sometimes have severe joint pain in my jaw, directly under my ears, the anestesiologist who intubated me through my nose deviated my septum, so I have to see an ENT to have it fixed (I didn't realize this until six months after my surgery becaues of the swelling), and after the surgery when I was being stitiched up, my doctor practically wiped out my upper lip. Finally... when I blow my nose, air comes out of the side of my eye.

I guess you can say my surgery was bitter sweet. I love the way I look, but I hate all the screw ups. I have never met anyone totally happy with their surgery. Good luck to all who have it done. I'm not writing this to discourage you, I'm just being truthful.

MessageHello,

I am going to have orthognathic surgery on January 9th. I am very nervous because I am have a low tolerance for pain and I just read that they may have to put in a soft catheter. My doctor said the surgery would last 2 1/2 hours. Did you have to have a soft catheter put into your bladder? I am really freaked out about that. If so, did they put it in and remove it while you were under anesthesia?

Thanks.
Jennifer

MessageI just wanted to let you know that your blog has been so helpful to me. I too had orthognathic surgery. It has been 12 days since the surgery. I have a plastic guard over my top teeth and I hope to God that my surgeon takes it off today. I will see him for my 2nd post op visit today. I don't really know what to expect.

Anyway, thank you so much for your blog. I have searched a million websites and nothing has been as helpful as this!

Shanna smilie

MessageHi. I've been reading through information on Orthognathic surgery and came across your blog and many others! It's really inspiring to see other people who have went through similar situations and have posted their experiences for others to share. I must say, I have my doubts about the procedure, but the results seem so good! I'm not actaully braced or anything yet, just in the planning stages, unfortunately. smilie

MessageHi Rebecca,
I read a few of your posts on Facebook regarding your surgery and checked out your blog. Not only was I shocked to see that you are Canadian but a fellow Nova Scotian! I am finally brave enough to get the ball rolling on my surgery, scared shitless but ready to get it overwith! How long were you out of comission from surgery? Did you have braces on prior to surgery? I have my first appointment with my dentist and surgeon June 4th, wish me luck and take care!
