| Message | Hi , I am joining IIT Madras in August in the M.Sc course in Chemistry. I would like to know if there is any student here who has done the same, or is doing the same. I am nervous about staying in a hostel as this is the first time I'll be staying away from home. Can one please brief me about the hostel,its interiors and all. I do not know yet which hostel I have been alloted. Do I have the option of staying with a roommate or is it compulsory for me to stay alone in my room? I would be glad if someone comes forward to explain me about the workings of the hostel,hostel life,and what all are present in the hostel. Hoping to hear from one of you soon,  Mahita |

| Message | hi ashritha... laptops are not 'mandatory'...and the institute encourages you to not bring over ur laptops in the first sem. also you get a personal internet connection only from second sem onwards. and till then, you can avail of the central library, department and hostel computer rooms which are enough to assist you in ur assignmnets ans stuff... looking forward to see u around push |
