MessageWithin Duck's profile, there is a piece of information that's wrong. It says that locomotives with Duck's outline go as far back as 1897 but according to GWR Engines: Names, Numbers, Types & Classes (1938), there is the 1901 class engine. This type of engine has a similar outline to the 5700's but was introduced in 1874.

MessageI now have more specific details about Albert. Albert is a J1 class locomotive (2-4-2T) built for the Furness Railway by Sharp Stewart & Co., Manchester. The J1's were rebuilt from the E1 class (FR, not LBSCR!) 2-4-0T's which, were introduced in 1870. These E1's were rebuilt into J1's in 1891. Sadly, none of these locomotives have survived into preservation.
By the way, do you think there's a chance of adding this information to the RWS character profiles?

Note: If I've been cutting corners, I apologise.

Many thanks for sharing your research about 'Albert' with us :) We have a list that almost reaches the floor for characters that we need to add to the profiles. The challenge is trying to find suitable photographs where copyright would not become too much of an issue, and we want to do the honourable thing by avoiding to 'lift' them off other sites without permission. That's why we'd prefer to find photos from old (pre-1965) books and railway magazines ( book/mag. source would be credited).

How did you find us?Looking for Toby
MessageI was very fortunate to meet the Reverend Awdry almost 25 years ago, when he visited Cornwall and Cothele House on a book signing.
I waited patiently in the long que and just managed a short list of what I was building in 5" gauge live steam. I would have loved to be able to have talked some more, but it raised a smile in what was a quite boring afternoon.
I shall always treasure the two books signed I have newer replacements which I read to my young daughter who also loves Toby.

Thank you for the wonderful books.

David.

MessageThis has to be the most comprehensive Thomas website on the internet. Having been an autistic reader and viewer of the Thomas books and videos since I was 2 or 3, This is a great resource for fans young and old.

PS: I met Christopher Awdry a few times, during book signings at the National Railway Museum - a very nice chap.

MessageBrought up next to Ratty, I met the Reverend when he was researching Small Engines, Our discussions were all about real railways and the amazing stories that came out of them. I had no idea that Sodor was next door, I always assumed it was a facsimile for the Isle of Wight(I lived there for 7 years later.

The US market for Shining time is huge, I hope that the Awdrys get a few cents per $100 dollars spent. Great website, however one correction the small controller was Douglas Ferreria General manager of the ratty from 1961-1994, who was well over six feet in his sandles. As Douglas was one of the outstanding railway managers in the preservation scene he should be remembered in fiction as well as fact.
