| Message | What an absolute delight !!!- a wonderful site, learned to read with Thomas and nearly 50 years later, still derive the same pleasure from both text & pix ,saw the layout at Central Hall W/Minster back in the day but too nervous to speak to the man-fascinating lowdown on the history, had always assumed the S&DJR was the original basis before it gained it`s own momentum & history. A grand job done here mate !!-well done, worth it`s weight in prime Sudrian silver, keep it up,many thanks, all the best,Nick |

| Message | This is probably the best site in the world for Railway Series information. At any rate, it's infinitely better than the "offical" website. You ought to join the Thomas the Tank Engine wiki, you know so much. In fact, why not? The main page's at www.ttte.wikia.org. For all of us. |

| How did you find us? | browsed net for pics of Rev W Awdry's layouts! |
| Message | Hi,
great site, I was so pleased to see good quality pics of the Rev Awdry's model railways. I have a bit of a tough question here, I hope someone can help me.
When the Rev Awdry died there was understandably a lot of attention around the world. There was a program broadcast in the UK telling the story of how Thomas became such an icon.
Now my question is this. On this program they showed what an interest had been shown in Japan. They showed a Japanese TV ad for a train set range of very large models, that ran on proper railway track, and were started and stopped by this magic wand thing that operated a sensor on top of the locos.
Now since I saw that ad on the program I have never seen this range of models either in shops or on the net. Was it produced, or was it never actually made? The models were surprisingly good and were huge, and I remember that the 8 year old me being very impressed by what the Japanese manufacturers were apparently making, models on a scale conparable with the gauge one models of the TV series (then in its sensible reasonably railwaylike era).
I was very lucky many years ago to twice visit T studios in Shepperton where the original series were filmed , the second time getting to operate Henry's eyes (and yes I made them do the confused spin, though due to us living in normal time it was very slow-mo!)
Can anyone help with my search for the elusive model range?
kindest regards
Matt

Dear Matthew
We've sent you an email reply, and the model range that you refer to was manufactured by Bandai in the 1990s. Thx James |

| Message | Nice site. I received my first Thomas book many decades ago, and I still like Thomas.
Re: your translation of UK "tender" into US "coal car."
A tender is a tender on both sides of the Atlantic.
A lot of people in the US are quite ignorant about railroads, and they use the term "coal car" to refer to a tender. "Coal car" is not a railroad term at all, actually. Coal is carried in hoppers, and sometimes such car is referred to as "coal hopper" - if it happens to carry coal, that is.
