MessageNice site. I received my first Thomas book many decades ago, and I still like Thomas.

Re: your translation of UK "tender" into US "coal car."

A tender is a tender on both sides of the Atlantic.

A lot of people in the US are quite ignorant about railroads, and they use the term "coal car" to refer to a tender. "Coal car" is not a railroad term at all, actually. Coal is carried in hoppers, and sometimes such car is referred to as "coal hopper" - if it happens to carry coal, that is.

MessageMark - Yes I believe at least some of the original Railway Series were published in Welsh. Try Amazon.com or eBay.

Thanks for your kind words about the site,

cheers

MessageI love Gordon the Express Engine!
He is so cute. His Birthday is November 4th! Why I like him u ask? It's Because How Strong He is and the best. He is the leader! I ride on his express when need. "Jenn Said Gordon." "Yes Said Me." "Your The Greatest Friend I have Ever Met Jenn Said Gordon." I was Crying. "Thank u Gordon!" Said Me. And We were still talking! I love the other trains also. But Gordon is like me Strong and useful! Don't u think so? Thomas and Friends 4 ever!

Jenn,
Gordon The Big Express's Rider And Good Friend!

MessageFabulous site, I love the old Warne books and despise the vile Allcroft rubbish with their unrealistic scenarios.

I'm trying to trace if the Warne books were ever translated into Welsh as the only Welsh language versions I can find are the hideous Allcroft inspired tat, and as I'm learning Welsh I can't think of a better way to help with the lessons than reading the original Railway Series!

Does anyone know if the original books ever made it into Cymraeg?

Keep up the good work keeping the original books in the public eye and perhaps someday we'll get the full set reprinted with the original beautiful artwork restored instead of cheap photos of Hornbyesque tie-ins...

MessageThe best "Railway Series" website I have found. A constant inspiration to my own personal Island of Sodor in my (alas rather small) attic.
